What a surprise. Another pit bull attack on a child.

New Jersey Girl, 5, Mauled by Family Pit Bull

A five-year-old girl was hospitalized Saturday morning after being attacked by the family's pit bull mix inside her New Jersey home, police said.

The girl, Janaya Everett, was in an upstairs room of the house in East Orange when two pit bulls entered and one attacked her, police said. The dogs live in basement of the home.

Yah, I know there are a shitload of pit bull apologists, and I know that other breeds can and do attack.

And yet, and yet....

Too many stories of bugfuck crazy pit bulls attacking children and even adults.

I don't know what the best answer is for this.

For one, I put human life at much higher value than an animals. There are a lot of people out there who think the opposite. That makes discussions about what to do regarding this breed so difficult. They are easy and cheap to obtain through shelters, and can be trained to be a loyal, obedient companion. But too many times they are already abused, and basically dangerous. Shelters should not be allowing ones that have a track record, or even could be considered dangerous, to be adopted by anyone who is going to have children in the home.

I mean, a dog is an animal with its own instincts, that doesn't follow human law. My brother had a very expensive breed of hound that he spent tons of money on training, only to have it bite his friend who was trying to wake him (my brother) up from a nap. I guess the dog felt my brother was being attacked. They had to send the dog back to the breeder, because it started nipping at everyone after that.

People need to be smarter too. They should research what dogs are best in families, for hunting, as companions to a single individual, best with other pets, likes cats, won't maul your children... I think some people just say "I want a dog!" and go get one to satisfy that immediate need without thinking about the time you need to devote, the money it costs, and how to make your lives work together. Getting a dog isn't like getting a goldfish, or even a cat. It's on par with having a child, since it changes your life for as long as your new companion is alive.

Sorry for the disjointed post. I was typing as I was thinking, and I don't have a lot of time to clean it up.

Being forced to live in a basement would make almost any dog crazy. They need exercise, socialization, training, etc. Looks like those dogs were abused. So sad for all concerned.
