That's great. Ten of my neighbors had it installed last year, I think six of them got rid of it due to price increases. So it had to be about a year. We are in South Colonie as well. They constantly hound us to get it. We told them just the broadband. However the price for the stand alone is much higher then if we took the triple package. We don't need phone or tv. The package is $69 plus taxes and fees and equipment charges and I believe an installation charge etc. I think the actual price was about $3 lower than what we paid to time warner.

We did think of getting the broadband only and I would pay the $199 for the modem instead of renting. Then I read you really don't need any modem from Verizon at all. But not sure if that info is correct.

There aren't any modems in FiOS. What I believe you are referring to is the FiOS quantum gateway/router, and yes you don't need it. I have the older Actiontec mi424 to allow for the tech to install. All you need to do is hook up via Ethernet from your router to the ONT (assuming your router supports the throughput) and works without any problems (for me at least).

Note this is Internet only. I don't know if you can skip it if you buy the triple play to save money. E.g. (to talk about TWC) ordering the double-play+DVR from TWC to get a better bundled price but never picking up the DVR.
