Semaphore posted : If you have your own registered IP space and ASN then that requires one technique, if your are just Many:1 NATting outbound then that's a different thing.

A question you want an answer to first however: is the fibre a physically separate plant or is it one company using the other's physical infrastructure. If it's the latter then you may not be gaining much or anything as far as upstream redundancy goes.

airslot posted : You should be good to go then. I fell complacent and maybe a bit overenthusiastic a few times and tried to leverage up to 84% of combined circuits and then lost a circuit. It was truly a " Oh Sh@t" what have i done time"This was a commercial account which had really steady traffic. Where I have mixed traffic from commercial and residential I try now not to leverage the circuit capacity more then 30% and it has worked well, thus far. The extra capacity I see sometimes tempts me to use a little more, but I think I have learned my lesson from times past. You will have to play with it and see where your sweet spot is, and what works best. Each system has it's own personality and requirements, so to speak.

MScottCason posted : I like that idea. I was looking at their Truffle box. I could backhaul my fiber connections to the site where my core is, and use that box to load balance. I could bond the two fiber lines to double my bandwidth and should one fail, I'm still up at half speed.

airslot posted : If your looking for just to do failover perhaps you could use boxes like Mushroom offers. There are quite a few ways to do failover & loadbalancing but it all depends on how far you want to go with it. I know of one private network the system is still manual and the owner wants no part of learning how to configure a router or outsource it. When one network fails they manually swap and reconfigure numbered ethernet cables between the routers, or if traffic gets too heavy they repeat the same.

»mushroomnetworks.com

MScottCason posted : I was ecstatic to learn another provider in my area offers wholesale bandwidth and has a fiber presence near one of my access points. I would like to build some redundancy in my wireless network by using their service as well as my current provider.
