MVNO FTWI realize it's not for everyone, but a little research and legwork can get you an MVNO on Verizon network without the big corporate costs. It is sometimes a painful transition (and maybe impossible) depending upon your WiFi availability and data needs, but it can save literally thousands of dollars per year. e.g., we spend $46/month on 3 smart phones with minimal data (2GB for 2 phones, top-up / roll-over data for the last). Came from Verizon Unlimited data $170/month (would now be over $200 with the unlimited price hike).
Like texting was in the past, Data is the new cash-cow and they're going to gouge for all it's worth. Use WiFi and train your phone, adjust your usage habits while on wireless data and give the bird to Verizon while still using their network. |

What MVNO did you switch to? |

Currently we are on Red Pocket Mobile and Budget Mobile (kid's phone, non-lifeline). The $19.95/month CDMAV (Verizon) plan is about the best deal I could find with 300 talk, unlimited txt and 1GB data (per phone) on the Verizon network. With Unlimited Data on Verizon, we always had the wireless data on and never bothered with WiFi. Now that we're using mostly WiFi, I've found there are few places we go that we need to use the wireless data. |

I am no stranger to MVNOs since my first relationship with Verizon was with Page Plus. This was back when 4GLTE phones were not officially accepted for any Verizon MVNO so I had to manually program my phone.
Regardless, the plan prices were a better value than cricKet CDMA while also being on a more reliable network. Come to think of it, not too long after cricKet set up shop in my area Straight Talk was launched which offered a better value. Only reason why cricKet was so popular is the dealer network as opposed to only an endcap at Walmart.
Only reason why I'm not with an MVNO right now is because I needed a new phone and purchased one using the B1G1 promotion and will have to wait until both lines are active for 6 months before cancelling or else I have to pay the second phone back.
If that Red Pocket plan now accepts 4GLTE phones then I may consider it in the near future. |
