Again let's remember here that the guy was a convicted felon so if the guy brandished it or not he was still breaking the law.

"Again, there's no video of the entire incident because they took the security camera footage, but the one video that does show the start of the fight appears to show the cops tackling him out of the blue."

But there is a video that clearly shows him struggling with the police. That falls under don't fight them.

"Also, again, he was on the ground, the gun was in his pocket,"

Do I need to point out yet again he was a convicted felon and it's against the law for a convicted felon to possess a gun? If he wasn't in possession of the gun to begin with this would have not played out this way.

This guy made the decision to arm him self knowing good and well it was against the law to have a gun. It's on him just as much as it is the cops. These cops didn't wake up that morning and decide they were going to go black guy hunting.

It's time that people take responsibilities for their own actions. If you want to reduce the chances of getting shot by the police then STOP BREAKING THE LAW! Admittedly, they don't look good on the surface, but you've got to hear all sides of the story before you can form an educated opinion. Hence the reason for investigations.

However trying to say it is *fact the police routinely kill people when they don't have to* is a bit of a stretch. Yes, it happens. No it's not acceptable when it does happen. But if you look at the number of cases and confrontations that police handle nationwide everyday or every month, the words fact and routinely become highly suspect. Any just like any profession, you will always have a small percentage of people who are bad at their jobs, or flat out rogue. Yes, those people need to have ramifications for their actions, but that doesn't make all police bad. Just like not all protesters are bad, but there are a few that get out of hand and should be punished for it.

The way to resolve this isn't by creating more animosity between police and public, rather bringing the two together. It starts with baby steps by us little people saying hello to police, or waving hello when they pass by. And yes, they need to do the same. I've bought officers lunch before when standing in line at a sub shop. I know they'll never remember me, but small tokens of appreciation in both directions have a big impact. Protesting and telling police that they suck is only going to make things worse.

And back to the original post: pray for all those who are innocent and have lost their lives, regardless of how or why it happened, or who they are.

Rekrul posted :
<said>said by IluvMoney:</said>
Pray for the five Dallas officers, and especially their families, who died defending protesters who were protesting police doing their jobs.

Correction: They were protesting the fact that cops routinely kill people when they don't have to. While the guy outside the convenience store did have a gun in his pocket, it was not in his hand, nor was the guy's hand in his pocket when the cops shot him to death. In the case of the guy killed in his car in front of his fiance and her 4-year old daughter, he informed the cop that he had a legally carried gun and was in the process of reaching for his wallet in order to comply with the cop's demand when he was shot to death for no valid reason.

You might say "But the cop had no way of knowing if he was reaching for the gun." To which I would reply "So the cops shot them as a precaution?" If I see a cop walking toward me with their hand on their gun, am I justified in killing them as a precaution because they might be a bad cop who intends to shoot me?

Taking someone's life should be the absolute last resort when you have no other choice to protect your life or the life of someone else and you're clearly in danger. It shouldn't be something you do because you think that you may be in danger at some point in the near future. You can't take back killing someone, so you better be 100% damn sure that it is absolutely required before you pull that trigger. Sadly, too many cops today seem to think that being nervous is all the justification they need to kill someone.

And even then, these incidents wouldn't generate the amount of resentment that they do if any of the cops actually faced real consequences for their actions, but they don't. All they have to do is say the five magic words "I feared for my safety" and they get off with just a slap on the wrist.

Can you imagine if you shot and killed your neighbor for holding a garden hose nozzle and then tried to use the defense that you thought it was a gun and that he was going to shoot you? The jury would take about 30 seconds to find you guilty of murder, but if a cop did the same thing, they wouldn't face a single consequence. How do I know this? Because it actually happened!

I don't condone killing cops (or anyone) for no reason, but so many cops have been caught on camera beating people who were restrained or not resisting, shooting people who are unarmed, or who weren't a threat, planting evidence and guns on people and just generally acting like everyone who doesn't get down and lick their boots is the enemy that public sentiment is starting to turn against them. They're no longer seen as trusted protectors, now they're the people who may beat you senseless if you don't show them the proper respect and who may kill you if you do anything to make them nervous. And even if it's caught on video, and even if the cop is clearly in the wrong, nothing will happen to him.

"But not all cops are bad!" you say. To which I reply "Then why don't the 'good' cops turn in the bad cops for all the crap that they do instead of covering for them?" Officer Bob is a good cop! He didn't take part in the beating that his partner gave to a handcuffed suspect! He just stood by and watched it happen, while also trying to block the view of the people who were trying to film the incident. And then he backed up his partner's report that the suspect somehow managed to punch him in the face while his hands were cuffed behind his back and he was lying on the ground. Yup, Officer Bob is one of the good ones!
