IF something like this happens for the general consumer market (and I don't think it's likely at all), it will be with an updated OS called Windows Cloud or something AND it will be an OPTION, not a requirement.
AND the version of Windows 10 I have installed will continue to work just fine without paying a pretty penny just like my version of Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 do now.
Seriously the FUD around this place is enough to drive a person right to the looney bin.
It will be like those iTunes and Google Play cards at the Grocery store and WalMart. A $40 dollar Windows 10 card will get you 6 months of bug fixes and updates, $60 will get you a years worth and some free programs and songs from the Windows store.
If you are saying this would be the case for extending support beyond what was already specified for the above OS, I'm sure there are a lot of people that would be happy to have such an option, because the alternative is no support at all.
Having said that, the less initiated computer users don't care or even think about updates and they are legion. So even if they were given such an option it wouldn't matter much to them because they wouldn't understand or at best would procrastinate (for years).
