Re: WOW Not Liking My SB6141

said by Vchat20:

This is such fantastic news (read: not really). I actually just got a 6183 and am currently with TWC with the modem activated on it. We're moving sometime soon and going with WOW and was intending to simply bring the modem over. Should I be concerned at this point and anything I can do to make the switchover smooth?

FWIW, here's the current firmware indicated on mine: D30CM-OSPREY-1.5.2.3-GA-01-NOSH

EDIT: Noticed this line recently in the event log:

Overriding MDD IP initialization parameters; IP provisioning mode = IPv6

This could be of concern, but I'm not certain. If you reboot the modem, do you receive the log entry every time? If so, then the setting isn't persisting through reboots, and you should be okay. If it's only happened once, then it might be persistent and cause a problem.

I'm reaching out to the contact at Arris I worked with on this issue to see about how we can best handle fixing these modems.

Cleared the event log and did a reboot and that same line came back so hopefully that is a promising sign.

I guess what I'll do is wait until install time and see if I can have a note of having the tech bring a rental modem just in case (will need a tech to come out as the previous tenant had U-verse and they fed that over the coax coming into the house) and go from there.

Hi Dan! I just switched from TWC to WoW as of about 20 minutes ago and am running into the exact same issue with my SB6141. The tech was unable to revert the 6141 back to IPV4, so it appears I am stuck using a rental modem unless there is another fix or Arris can help. Any luck from your contact? Thanks!

The solution I can offer at this time is to have you ship the modem to me, and I will send it out for repair. If you're good with this, send me a private message and I will send you back my shipping address so we can get the modem sent out and fixed.

To WOW_Dan,

I am having exactly the same issue. Switched from TWC to WOW, used my new Arris SB6141 for one day with TWC and the next day when WOW came in to connect my service, the technician told me he could not use my cable modem. Tried resetting to factory defaults, but it did not fix the issue. What is the cost for the repair solution you are proposing?

This is a most unfortunate situation, does wow deploy the 6141? or are they all wifi/gateways these days?

They should have the tech offer to swap customers for free when doing the install.

This is not an issue with the SB6141 per se but an IPV6 issue once the MODEM is configured to IPV6 mode. My brother is on WOW with a SB6141 with no issues but IPV4. He bought the MODEM from Amazon and WOW is the only service it has been used on.

Oh I know but due to the situation it means sending it in for reflashing.
That's a burden on customers.

Hi Dan, I am having the exact same problem as everyone else. Former TWC customer and my SB6141 is provisioned to IPv6. WOW phone support is telling me they don't repair modems or anything. Can you help?

@WOW_Dan I'm having the same issue with my SB6141 being locked to IPV6 only. I just switched from TW to WOW today and had to use a rental modem until I can get mine to cooperate. Please send instructions. Thanks!

Dan,
I too have had this issue. I would love to find the work around, if you are still able to do that.

Anyone with this issue should contact:

To reach ARRIS Technical Support please visit us online at »www.arris.com/selfhelp/  for our Frequently Asked Questions or for chat and email support. You can also call us at 1-877-466-8646 for live support.

Just_Dan is correct when a MSO assigns the MDD value to ipv6only the modem will need to be on a cable plant that supports IPv6.. There is no way around this..

Dan, I too am having the same issue with a personally owned SB6190 on your network (I have a loaner from wow in the meantime). Any chance you can assist me as well?

Many thanks in advance for your time.
