ChuckB posted : Thank you so much for your post. It turns out he did not need my Engenius router, he had a Netgear N150 Wireless router. it was broadcasting the default SSID name and config with default pw, which he did not know. But he did not know if that was his network or neighbor, he did not know security key. He had his desktop connected to one of the LAN ports so he never used the WiFi, but now had a tablet. So I logged into the router using default creds, changed SSID to one he wanted and reset security key as well. Now he is all set. Thanks again guys.

Darknessfall posted :
<said>said by Hank:</said>
Can a CT resident provide additional insight?

Well, since he's claiming it's just a regular DSL modem, I'm assuming he's only on ADSL. There was a very small amount of ADSL2+/VDSL2 modem only(non-PPPoE) devices that ended up on the network from AT&T, but I doubt this is the case. Since it's likely ADSL in CT, it'll be PPPoE. However, I've never had ADSL with PPPoE in my life, so my knowledge of the correct modem settings is lacking lol. It sounds like the modem is already up and running though?

But shouldn't all he have to do(assuming he already doesn't have a router and the modem is handling it) is change the modem so that PPPoE is on the connected device instead of the modem, then just log in with the PPPoE login on the router?

If he's using a Motorola 2210(that's the only recent ADSL non-gateway device AT&T gave out I believe, assuming he didn't buy his own), then you must log into the modem's UI at 192.168.1.254, head over to the "Advanced" tab, then click "PPP Location", then choose "PPP is on the computer, gateway, or router" and save. Then for the Engenius, you'll need to log into it and go to the WAN settings and set up the WAN for PPPoE. You'll need to log in with his PPPoE login. You may need to talk to support if you don't know it. Most recent logins have @connect.frontier.com in them and you'll want to choose the option to keep the connection alive.

Hank posted : Was his modem supplied by Frontier? What is the make and model of the DSL modem that he currently has? You're in CT so there are some differences from other DSL areas. Probably 0/35 LLC. Can a CT resident provide additional insight?

ChuckB posted : Hi Guys,

I want to help a friend of mine who has Frontier DSL service but does not have a wireless gateway, just a regular DSL modem. At least that is what he is telling me. Have not seen his modem yet. Anyhow, I have a EnGenius 750H wireless router I am no longer using and want to set it up for him. I have reset the modem back to factory specs and I can login to the router but not sure what the Frontier settings are the router. Is there a configuration here somewhere I can go by? Appreciate your help.
