AT&T now building in their 3rd and 4th (Crenshaw Hall, and Crenshaw Manor) neighborhoods in Wake Forest, NC.
Wake Forest is a Centurylink market, so this is pretty significant. |

Fiber can now be ordered in the Westridge neighborhood off the west side of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, about a month or 2 ago they were clearing trees from the RoW, last week they were clearing trees in my neighborhood on the other side of the creek wonder how long until they get fiber put up here. |

It’s currently going in on pleasant valley and is up along both ends of route 21. Its on Chestnut also but it doesn’t make it back into my development even though they just built an bunch of new houses. |

I heard before I went out of town for work that the city is making some new homeland security cam system and it will run all on fiber. |

So I'm currently on the old ADSL (6mbps) and am always looking for signs AT&T may be upgrading our lines. My connection comes from a building that looks kind of like a medium sized shed, with fencing around it, that is marked with the AT&T logo. The lines come out of the ground from that building up to some utility poles along the road in front of the building and then out to the customers.
Recently, I noticed a company called "5 Star Electric LLC" was putting two brand new utility poles within a couple of feet next to the current poles that have all the copper wiring running up them. I know I'm likely getting my hopes up but could AT&T be planning on running some new wiring (ie: Fiber?) |

You mean the mobile camera thing and the scanner probably. AT&T has had business fiber in the city for an while going back to the Americatech days so this new fiber is separate. |

So, last night when I got home from work, I noticed some people up in bucket trucks on my block, looked like they were doing some work for AT&T. I approached them, and they confirmed they were stringing fiber for AT&T. I snapped a few pictures; This one, a few poles down from my home: » imgur.com/hHObLvKThis one, on the pole across the street: » imgur.com/NP7m09Gand finally, this one which is in the alley which runs parallel to my home with some coiled up fiber. » imgur.com/sav8Fyf-- The first two images, I can clearly see an optisheath deployed. Nothing yet on 'my pole' but it looks like they're actually doing something now. FWIW, I checked my neighbors addresses online and no Fiber availability for them yet, despite the optisheath. I know it can take a while. Maybe I'll end up with fiber yet, does this look like FTTH? |

I see similar wiring installed in the past couple weeks in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 zip code (cross streets avenida aprenda and redondela). I visually confirmed the white label on the wiring said "att fiber optic cable". I'm unsure if this is for ATT FTTH, but hoping it is, as this area has no other broadband option than Cox, which charges $119 for DOCSIS 1000 mbit / 35 mbit & 1TB cap. |

I've noticed around where I live that in the areas where they've been installing fiber that they'll tag the phone lines with orange and then tag fiber with white, and I don't recall their being any clearly visible tags on the cables before.. |

Small update to my above post, 'my pole' now has an optisheath hooked up to the end of the coiled fiber. » imgur.com/YYgYXll |

I caught a 3rd party contractor doing some work this week, directly across the road from my home. This looks to be ATT Fiber and they've been doing a lot of work on this NODE and the lines on these poles for weeks. Am I right? |

Possibly, The bottom strand is Copper, the Middle strand is definitely Fiber, and the top strand is CATV. So, depending on who owns the middle strand it MAY be AT&T fiber. It's hard to tell. I'm guessing the apparatus on the middle strand to the left is a fiber splice case. I'm not sure if the short pigtail hanging down by the pole is a pigtail to connect an Optisheath fiber terminal or not. It actually looks like Coax to me. |

 Corning optitap terminals |
Look for terminals like these on the poles and in any nearby open vaults that say 'AT&T' 'Ameritech' or whatever the local Bell company's former name was. |

Yes, that's definitely fiber. The better tell would be if you see a new PFP cabinet, just out of the frame of your original picture... |
|

It's definitely ATT Fiber. ATT is the only company that runs residential fiber in this area and I got to talk with the contractor today. A new neighborhood about half a mile down our main road is getting ATT Fiber, the contractor says ATT is also planning on providing it to all houses and neighborhoods between here and the new neighborhood. How true that is...is beyond me. I'll see if I can get a few other pictures later today. |

Like New York Telephone Company d/b/a Verizon - New York and New England Telephone and Telegraph Company d/b/a/ Verizon - New England. If I had to guess the Chain for the BellSouth would be Southern Bell d/b/a/ BellSouth Telecommunications Inc. d/b/a AT&T |

I can only imagine that somewhere there's legal doccumentation that says something to the effect of American Telegraph & Telecom (AT&T) as successor by merger of South Western Bell Corporation (SBC) as successor by merger of Ameritech Corporation as custodian for Indiana Bell Corporation. |

The main issue as it was described by me when working for one of said Baby Bells was that many early easements did not have "successors and assigns" clauses, so legally it was much easier to not change the legal name of the company and just do a d/b/a... |

I believe that AT&T, SBC, and Ameritech would have technically merged, by Ameritech was a holding company that contained Indiana Bell, Ohio Bell, Illinois Bell, Michigan Bell, and Wisconsin Bell. So being a holding company, wouldn't mean the Companies still operate as their own entities and Ameritech would have controlled them in a similar fashion as the custodian of an investment account would control individual investments. |
