Make sure you release the dhcp lease on the router to be removed before hooking up the new router. Otherwise the new router won't grab an ip from the ont.

Thinkdiff posted : Simple test: disconnect the coax from your router. If you can still access the Internet, then your ONT is already configured for Ethernet WAN. If you can't, you'll need to ask Verizon to switch it.

I believe if you login to the router, it'll also display which connection it's using for WAN (Ethernet or Coax).

Yes. Simply ask Verizon to switch your ONT from Coax to Ethernet and you're good to go.

Let me add that the ONT is ALSO connected to the router with ethernet. Do I still need to contact Verizon to switch from Coax to Ethernet?

Yes. Simply ask Verizon to switch your ONT from Coax to Ethernet and you're good to go.

Maybe you need to chase them to run a scan to prove it's the new router... it certainly took lots of chasing and waiting before they bothered to tell me I had to switch off bridge mode and run it as a router before they'd be able to detect it.

I had an argument w/ bogus NYS Construction surcharge, and now this and RSN went from $0 to $3 to $6, modem fees, Local broadcast fees from $0 to $3, now some other new regulatory fee shows up. $13 in made up stuff. Literally if I cancel and then sign up again I can save $20 but as I think about it I can almost shitcan cable altogether and just run couchpotato and call it a day and save $50. For broadcast, Plex is coming along and sooner or later I can just use that for broadcast or again just let couchpotato do the work, or just wait a year and let Neflix cut the commercials for me :) IMHO these guys are just shooting themselves in the foot.

And to compound the problem they are shooting LONG-TIME CUSTOMERS in the face who they never updated ancient equipment. Who went to business school and determined that you s**t on your loyal long-term customers with some bs fee that you created because YOU never kept their equipment up to date?

The fact that this made it through only leads credence that Verizon upper management has their heads up their a$$. What company craps on their oldest customers: VERIZON. They already lost me as a cell customer of 16 years, whats next bone heads??

I'm one of those whom Verizon mailed a newer black and red Actiontec modem free of charge.

My account is no contract, price-locked through 2018. Perhaps a lot of you locked in multiple-year service agreements that originally offered low or none upfront costs.

I remember when Verizon first offered FiOS, the differences between a contract and no-contract customer were considerable. Your soul for a 2-yr agreement came with better speeds, more channels, $300 Visa pre-paid card, free tablet, and other assorted "perks." Most of you likely developed amnesia to this, but most don't read the agreements they sign to begin with.

It's stupid of them to keep biting the hands that feeds, but I digress.

I don't think they update that information very often. I have been using my own Netgear router for a few weeks now and their web site still says I have a Actiontech. As long as I don't get charged the new maintenance fee, they can list whatever they want on their web site.

Yes, I asked Verizon if they wanted their router back and they said NO... In my account it does say Verizon owned router. I had a Rev "F". I replaced their Actiontech with a Netgear WPN824v3. It's old but works as well as the Verizon actiontech. I am looking for a better router now. At least the Actiontech is out of the picture now.

I'm a Verizon business csr, and I do apologize the quantum gateway comes with a 2 year warranty per the official limited warranty link, the older routers came with 1-year. Our system still says 1-year for the quantum. I am going to ask for clarification on this

I guess Verizon no longer sees value in having the stores. It is probably cheaper for them to just centralize their operations and pay shipping costs.
