[cCable] Faster Upload speeds in the near future?

I'm sorry, I've done some reading on here but haven't found an explicit answer to this question ... I've been a start customer for several years now and very happy with the service, but ... I really really need faster upload speeds in a bad way. I do get my full 10Mbps but it's not enough for my current needs.

Is there anything in the works for this or are we still stuck in the regulatory loop. Sad to say if we're still stuck in a loop I may have to bail and go with the big C (my area's provider), at least until things are sorted out. That 20Mbps upload speed is really calling my name ...

Does Cogeco offer 20mbps upload on any of their tiers? If not, then TPIA's cannot either...

Yes they do, but only on their current top tier (250/20 unlimited)

You could get 2 or more 25/10 lines and use Mlppp.

The only way to get better upload speed is switch isp for now

I've been down this road before. Get 250/20, or if it is not available, like in my case.. the only option is to get business internet. You can get 50/15 for not too bad of a price.

Well the even more unfortunate bit is that I just spent over 30 minutes on the phone with them and apparently the ONLY option they are currently allowing for this is that you MUST use their provided all-in-one modem/router/wifi and that it's not possible for it to run in any sort of bridged mode. What a bunch of a$$hat$

Are you just going by what they say on the phone, or did you actually lookup the model to confirm? It probabaly does do bridge mode and they didn't know the answer so they said no

I tried phoning back again and got the same info, no one knew what modem brand or model number it was, I asked in the cogeco forum here instead. Not awe inspiring when their tech people don't know.

They can go into bridge mode... they are router friendly

Tier7 (250/20) is listed on the TPIA tariff...

Ah, then I presume just like in Rogers area its just too expensive for any TPIA to offer it at a reasonable price...

It would be nice if they throttled down the download and kept the upload the same.. it's the download that's what drives the costs up, isnt it?

The 250/20 access rate is also $14/mo more than the current interim 120/10.

...which is strange (although not limited to Cogeco) since all the incumbents were ordered to move the usage sensitive components from the access rate into the capacity rate, and yet somehow almost all the access rates went up. :-/

Does that mean it's something that you could offer @rocca? I would MUCH rather pay you for this service than pay them (especially considering all the time I've been wasting to just get an answer, not awe inspiring).

When isn't it? Tier 7 is $55.81 for access alone.

Well I would much more happily pay a TPIA a reasonable fee above what C is charging just so I don't have to try and deal with them ... so someone (Rocca) please take my money!

That's the problem, it can't be reasonable with current CBB rates.

On top of that $55.81, the capacity costs are insanely high. A 100Mbps link with Cogeco costs $716.00/mo, or a 1gb link for $7,160.00. If you used your connect to capacity at peak hours, you'd effectively be consuming $1800 worth of capacity.

Well at this point I can't even get a proper price from C let alone have them confirm their modems are capable of bridging so maybe I'll just shut up and keep using my current 60/10 or whatever it is and be happy.

OK, here's a thought.

Never mind doing MLPPP, but have you considered getting TWO cable feeds at, say 30/10 for $50 each from START, plus two modem rentals if you do not own two already, and get a router with dual WAN inputs to blend them at YOUR end ?

Or, for a bonus of redundancy, one feed and modem could be VDSL at 25/10, if you can get that in your 'hood.

Of course, if you needed unlimited usage, it would be a bit more, but would the idea in general satisfy your needs ?

No, no standard bonding or other MLPPP type solution is what I'm looking for. I really want/need a single pipe with more bandwidth. Bonding, while sounding good in theory, never really works out the way you expect it will. I specifically need to be able to do a single stream of (up to) 20Mbit. Bonding and/or other teaming type solutions will not achieve this.

Multiple lines could be made to work for you by tunneling through a rented server but you may not want to spend the time setting that up.
