Re: Shaw 150 vs Telus 150said by xNPC:no, it's throttling practices. my ftp is not throttled but my torrents sure are. and im a night owl. 25plus years in the business i know when my usage is being throttled at the head end. False pulling 28MB/s currently on a Linux iso |

ok dwight. but actually, in my original post i was referring to UPLOAD speed. see the difference when you read what i wrote? DOWNLOAD speed is fine. YMMV applies widely here. my ftp blazes at 1.6 up my torrents at maybe 20kbps...peering is not the issue, but i wasnt arguing with anyone, i was merely stating what i know to be true in my case. shaw sucks for upload speed and that is a fact. |

That is my main concern moving over to Shaw "throttling". I share my own videos which are sometimes quite large and I use a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing site to upload to and If Shaw throttles uploads when peer-peer is detected then there is no way I can even consider Shaw. I would like the slight increase in upload capacity and the greater download capacity that Shaw offers, but not if I could never actually see upload benefit.
Cheers |

Is the throttling thing really an issue? I was on BB50 with shaw up until a year and a half ago. I never experienced any throttling on shaw. If they only do it on congested nodes, then I think you're going to have bigger issues than the throttling Congest nodes are just as bad (if not worse) than throttling. |

Naw Upload is fine around 1.2MB/s right now You say this when you are paying for 1.5 and and receiving 1.2. With telus on the bonded 100 they sell you 20Mbit and you get between 29-31 Mbit upload IRL Amazing how one can be happy getting less than what you pay Shaw for, when Telus literally delivers 50% more than they advertise, and don't throttle it; to each their own I suppose... Say what you will about how well your connection works but the numbers don't lie as far as what each ISP can deliver. The fact that shaws only gets worse if congestion occurs is just another reason not to use the service as if it happens to occur in your area you can be assured it will take Shaw quite a bit of time to identify it and even longer to deal with it. All the while you will have pardon the lack of technical terms but "poop" for a connection until it gets split. Unless you are a naive person that lives under a rock you will know how quickly large companies these days spend resources to deal with just a few consumer complaints...IE. they don't. |

NOt sure what your ranting about. But touche. I can't control what data is requested by peers. Nor am I stupid enough to allow my upload to saturate. But carry on with your useless ranting. Im sure someone will appreciate it |

Called in to ask Telus about my break fee and they gave me a pretty sweet deal to stay. I get Internet 50/unlimited addon/basic tv/sports addon for $63/month for the year. Knocks another year off my contract, so it's also another $120 I can pillage from my break fee fund.
150mbps would of been sweet, but I can wait. I've got nothing against Shaw. I've used them before, but not having to switch, and have outright unlimited is pretty sweet (plus Telus basic+sports is about the same price as shaw's personal tv, but you get the rest of the sports channels, which is the only reason I have cable).
I realize Shaw's 1tb cap is soft.. but it's nice not thinking about it. The one thing I think shaw has over telus (aside from the speed) is the picture quality of their TV service.
oh well. I'll revisit this in a year if Shaw has a similar promo next year. |
