Re: Bell new rate increases - Feb. 1, 2017

I fall into the seniors bracket, but am technically savvy. Almost ditched the landline last year but negotiated a good discount of ~$80/m on all 3 services. My detailed price comparison showed only a few dollars in savings by switching to a voip solution as I would loose many of the discounts. The option is constantly on my radar.

The factors keeping me are:
1. I watch a fair amount of recorded TV consisting of series, sports, and movies. Almost no live viewing. Convenience (watch when I want with pause, REW, FF), material instantly available, and great quality are all important.
2. Alternative sources for TV content is still in "hackers mode", not wife friendly. Maybe this is not a big deal as she only watches TV with me.
3. All my current programming is not available from alternate sources. Would require a mindset change.
4. I am the technical support. My worry is a problem coming up when I not around (temporarily or permanently) and that my wife would not know how to resolve it even with my documentation.

Bottom line: elimination of the TV service, switching to voip, and using fast unlimited internet would save me maybe $50-70/m. Not trivial, but not a killer.

To their credit, Bell has been rock solid for me with no billing issues.

Question: Discount of $80/month, or final price of $80/month?

For the next 2 years, i'm paying $99/month + tax for Rogers gigabit and tv service, $0 for voip (freephoneline.ca) - Reasonable price in my opinion, though faster and more tv channels then i've any need for so I will want to eventually downgrade if I can do it at a lower price.

Discount is $80 including tax. Major part of my bill is for TV Better package (TMN & TSN). This is a lifestyle change is needed.

I'm sorry, the answer doesn't really match the question. You have a $250 bill with a $80 discount off it/total price of $170/month, or a discounted rate of $80/month for your services?
