[Modem] Re: SB6190 is a terrible modem - Intel Puma 6 / MaxLinear mistakesaid by Datalink:Netgear:
CG4500 C6300 C6300BD (Telstra Gateway Max - Australia) CM700 The CG4500 is broadcom, as is the C6300BD(at least the US/Cox one, pretty sure the telstra unit is as well. The only Intel based devices I know of are the C6300-100, and the CM700.(the CMD31T is as well, but an earlier TI Puma5) |

Netgear CG4500 » www.multichannel.com/new ··· y/257353I have to assume that the writer didn't just copy and paste in CG4500 into the article by mistake. » www.multichannel.com/new ··· s/305957» www.lightreading.com/cab ··· d/700340Same with these articles for the CG4500TM (which uses a Puma 6 chipset) "A Netgear spokeswoman also confirmed that the CG4500TM is powered by the Intel Corp. Puma6 chipset, and that the product is expected to reach commercial availability in the first half of 2013. " » www.maxlinear.com/maxlin ··· -family/MaxLinear announcement for mxl267-full-spectrum-capture-receiver which appears to accompany a Puma 6 chipset these days. FCC ID PY313300237 Note there is no indication anywhere that I have found other than online articles and alluded to in the Maxlinear announcement that clearly spells out the processor that is used in the CG4500 series modems. I have to assume that the articles above are factually correct, as are the links for the C6300BD. The CG4500 Cox uses is BCM3383 based, as is the Cox C6300BD.
Netgear has been somewhat problematic in its habitual reuse of the same/similar model numbers with different designs. Kind of how the "model" of router would only increment the v1/v2/v3 but internally change processor/radios etc. It's particularly annoying to manage that from my perspective, and something I complaint to them about fairly relentlessly.
Point being the CG4500/C6300BD that Cox use are BCM3383 based devices. |

Ok, point taken. Looking at the Cablelabs Qualifications, there is only one CG4500 entry, so, if Netgear is producing different hardware under the same product name or number, thats a little strange, but, I'd have to read thru the Cablelabs Qual rules which I don't feel like doing at the moment. The C6300 has three versions listed, two of which are Cable Modems, with the third listed as a Euro Cable Modem.
So, different modems with the same product number. Who ever said this was going to be easy?
Can we agree on a note added to the list, as follows:
"Note: the CG4500/C6300BD that Cox Communications utilizes are Broadcom BCM3383 based devices, not Intel Puma 6/6MG based devices. There are differing versions of each product with either an Intel or Broadcom processor." |

Is the Technicolor TC8717 also Intel Puma 6? Not having any luck finding it in the manual. According to this it is » /hardw ··· 17-h4010, but want to make sure. Thanks. |

Well, not according to this WikiDevi page on the TC8717C (» wikidevi.com/wiki/Techni ··· _TC8717C), which shows that device being powered by Broadcom's BCM33843 16x4 chipset: » www.prnewswire.com/news- ··· 842.html and » www.lightreading.com/cab ··· d/700476 |

Sorry, I mistakenly put Puma 6 for that device. It should be fixed now. I'll take Wikidevi's word for it. I did take a look at the internal photos and saw what seems to be the BCM33843. |

C6300-100, you are correct I have one |

you have been infected.. you must be quarantined.... . lol just kidding, you can throw that modem in the toilet and head to the store and buy a new modem. one without puma 6 such as 3.0 docsis = SB6183 (16x4) / CM600 (24x4)/ 3.1 docsis = CM1000/SB8200 . i say the cm600 is best bet right now. |

This result is a bit wonky. You should run the test a few more times maybe trying different servers. Notice how all your results are in the red section. Thats weird. MOST should be in the green section with SOME in the red. Not all. Make sure when you run this test that you skip any router and plug your computer into the modem with a wire. No wifi. Then reboot modem and computer. Then do the test. A bad test will have most X in the green area and like 10 in the red. Your result above might be another issue on your network. BUT YEA. Get off Puma. That will help no matter what. |

Be sure to test with a LAN wired PC directly to the modem, not wireless or with a router in the mix. |

Is the DTG1682G, the same as the TG1682G gateway leased by Comcast? I do not find DTG1682G in the hardware list, but the TG1682G is on the list at » /hardw ··· 82-h4006 and it is a Puma6. Thanks. |
