[DSL] Speedtests

I did some speed tests just for fun and got some very very strange results from multiple sources... anyone have any ideas on how a VDSL2 connection could go FASTER than the profile should allow?

»www.speedtest.net/my-res ··· 00757134

Spikes of up to 76Mbps on download, 26Mbps on upload (not the initial spike)...
...others are reporting 11.6-14Mbps on upload (final result not spike)

This is on a 26/11 profile

Not complaining, I just didn't think it was possible on DSL

It's not possible, DSL isn't burstable..

Just an error in the speedtest, nothing else...

You can always compare to speedtest.dslreports.com as well.

I tried all of these:

speedtest.net
sf.net/speedtest
speedtest.shaw.ca
measurementlab.net

All of them gave wonky results (all above profile)... very weird. DSLR speed test doesn't work for me, never has

How does it not work? It's the most accurate for me.

Have you tried a different browser?

or try beta.speedtest.net I believe that's not flash, so it could be better.

I forget what it was, something to do with an extension I use in Firefox like HTTPS Everywhere

I got it working and ran a bumch of tests and I can't say as I'm overly impressed. Since you can't guarantee testing on the same servers you can't get a baseline over time. Most of the time it hooks me into CA and Iowa when it should be hooking me into Ontario and QC. It compares me to Cable users when selecting a DSL test and listing DSL sync as 16/7.5 instead of 26/11. And I've yet to get a consistent result out of it... most other tests baseline peg me around 11-14d/9-10u while DSLR is up and down like a toilet seat on both readings - one second it's 4/9 the next test it's 14/6, then 10/5...

Something is buffering for a few ms then flushing which is likely giving you inflated download speeds.

Could be the OS, browser extension, or antivirus software.
