Are you using the stock remote or a 3rd party? I've been pretty happy with the FireTV running Kodi, but I'm open to trying something new. The hold up for me is in control. The FireTV remote has a few more buttons, and I use all of them (by way of a Harmony hub). I wouldn't want to give up those extra buttons.

I use the main remote for Shield, which I mostly is used for Kodi only, so once it is launched, you have use of App store kodi remote in apple store its called Kodi Remote, or the other is just Remote. Both work with Kodi once set up within the Kodi program.
On my PC Kodi setup I use a mouse, or Kodi remote from the App store also works on there.
I recommend the regular Kodi remote, it allows as many setup profiles as you like on your phone. I use it with all my apple phones, kids use use it the most, gives you access to all Kodi features.

As a quick add on to this, I'm using a cheap Rii RF keyboard, it's small and I bought the illuminated version, works when the lights are off in the bedroom type of thing.

I've used the Kodi app remote. And I originally bought the Harmony hub thinking I would use an old cell phone or tablet as the remote. But I found I much prefer physical buttons.

One in each room in fact. That tiny little remote has the perfect amount of buttons, and the wife-approval-factor is extremely high.

But harmonys generally only reproduce the key presses from the original remote, and it looks like the nvidia remote doesn't have enough buttons to cover the essential kodi functions for me. If anyone has used that combo, please let me know.
