Re: Twc Maxx Dayton Ohio?

When did you 'upgrade' ? People have suggested that with a TWC plan showing along with a Spectrum plan, you may get double-billed. Not that big of a deal as it's easily sorted out.

What modem do you have ? It seems like you have "local" issues, whether it's your modem, cabling, a neighborhood issue, etc. Who else is in Troy, Piqua, Tipp, etc from this site/forum ? Be interesting to see if they're seeing slow speeds too.

I have a SB6183 that I purchased last year when I was told my 141 wouldn't cut it.

I upgraded yesterday through the online chat.

Enter '192.168.100.1' in your browser's address bar. Post a screenshot (just like Cylon Red did above). There's no 'private' information shown to worry about either.

Earlier in the thread from last year you can see where I had a tech come out and check the wiring and signal.

Your power levels are lower than mine in general and I think the problem likely lies there. I should text my ex-BIL and see what he says can cause low power levels.

Signals are fine.

Just like Cylon Red's numbers, yours are much lower than mine. A quick search actually says numbers between -15 dBmV to +15 dBmV are "acceptable". Yours are in that range too.... I don't know if it's best to be right in the middle ("0"), low (-15), or high (+15) though.

I was having disconnect issues a few months ago and I thought people suggested that I try and increase my power levels. One way to do that is remove splitters that aren't needed, for example.

When the tech came out last year he hooked a device up to my cable and tested those levels.

Best is typically middle. But what is more important is the max/min difference, and ~6 dBmV is quite high.

There appears to be a sharp drop in power starting at about 700MHz. This is a problem. One should look to see if one is using a splitter not rated for 1000MHz, or an amp which should only be used for OTA, or something. It could also be unqualified cable, or bad connectors. First thing to do is test at the demark, and see if the signal from the street is consistent. If so, it is in the residence, if not, call Charter and get the drop fixed.

Mine range from 5.4 to 8.4. Everything is working fine for me though.

This morning I direct connected to my modem and ran another speed test - no difference. However, the power levels changed.

The connection on the LAN side doesn't impact the power levels.

Apparently my new speed wasn't "activated" and the job still needed to be completed. Although I don't understand why that was an issue. They said that it why the old legacy plan's still show up and there will be no double billing. So weird and pointless.

Now I just have to wait until I get home.

What speed plan were you on before ? The results you were seeing didn't line up with anything.

Edit: Actually, this sounds legit.... You had Extreme, which is 30 Mbs. They overprovision close to 39 Mbs and you were seeing results up to 37 Mbs.

Now if only we could get better then 5 Mbs Down / .62 Up in our North Ridge business park without installing new lines...ugh.

Basically he was pretty sure that if you did not have one of the 3 Spectrum approved modems then you would not get full speed. The only Arris modem approved is the TG1672G, a technicolor, or a Ubee.

My issue is the router - direct to the cable modem 70 meg down and almost 6 up. I am losing a ton to the router maybe due to QoS (basic priority with the xbox having the highest priority - but it only tests out at 28 megs down.

Going to have to see about updating the official firmware or going to the Merlin Asus firmware.

If you are judging speeds with QOS operating, I am astounded.
QOS has the potential--almost with certainty--to affect that.

Problem is - I may need QoS with streaming TV, xbox, and PCs... Though I am still surprised that with basic, traditional QoS and no other devices sending any data - that I still would not get full speeds. I just don't get how it is implemented.

Came home from work and my speeds were hovering around 20 Mbs. Gave the modem a reboot and here is what I'm getting. Speedtest.net brought it in around 70 mbs. Looks good here.

You were using QoS to help when you had 15 Mbs service. You have 4x the speed now.

My router shows (17) clients connected. Granted, they're not all 'online' nor would all of them ever be at the same time... I use no QoS.
