Has anyone gotten U-Verse to work behind a third party router.

Curious if anyone on here has gotten U-Verse receivers to work when the gateway is not doing the routing. So theoretically it would be a third party router downstream of the gateway either in DMZ+ or as a second network with a static IP with the internet and U-Verse would on the same subnet.....the iptv traffic tagged as whatever VLAN traffic or using IGMPv3 snooping.

I had success with internet going through the router, and the PACE handling IPTV to the receivers (so uverse and internet are on different subnets), but this has issues all its own. Separate cat drops for internet and uverse being the biggest pain, and not being able to use the uverse app to change channels being a minor annoyance.

Would love to have them all on the same subnet, behind a third party router.

I don't have U-Verse TV but have helped a friend or two with it. I don't think you are going to be able to get around the RG for the bandwidth devoted to IPTV. No passthrough option for that, as understandably AT&T wants to maintain control on that side.

TV receivers need to be connected to the gateway for them to work. You can set one port (or device) to DMZ+ mode and hook up all of your computers to it, but your U-Verse TV devices need to be connected via one of the other ports on the gateway.

You will indeed have to make a choice here.... people that have chosen an internet provider that is different than U-Verse (such as comcast or another cable provider) run into similar issues, such as not being able to use the app to control the receivers and DVR recording.

You can make somewhat of a hybrid solution by putting the unit in DMZ+ for most computers and/or connected devices to your switch and internal third party router, but leaving one wifi network active on the gateway and a small DHCP scope (e.g. set your internal router to DHCP 192.168.1.10-200, and set the gateway to DHCP 192.168.1.201-250 so you never get conflicts) for your phones and devices that need to connect to the U-Verse tuner/DVR for added functionality.

Other than that, I think you will have to content with the U-Verse gateway if you have TV through them. I guess you could switch to DirecTV, you can then put the gateway into DMZPlus mode, and hook everything, including all the DirecTV receivers, to your internal third party router, as they don't rely nor need any U-verse services whatsoever. You should actually be able to get a pretty good and/or better deal with DirecTV now that AT&T owns them....

Thanks for the reply, seriously.

I am however curious what is going on with Uverse, that IGMPv3 snooping would not work. Just seems really weird that they would do it this way.

I've got my own router working along side using a LAN-to-Wan configuration. Might not make sense but I've got the ATT unit running 5g only and my Asus AC1900 serving only 2.4g.

It prevents people from transferring IGMP multicast IPTV traffic off the Uverse router, if that traffic can be broadcast on a 3rd party router uverse TV potentially could be stolen and broadcast over the internet.

I wish I still had uverse at my house.. I have a couple of theories I want to test in regards to this.

I was wondering if I spoof the MAC of my RG to my Nighthawk and utilize AT&T's DNS servers, would I be able to get it to work by placing all IPTV traffic on a dedicated vlan

You'd still have to make sure it all does IGMPv3 snooping correctly, or you'd flood your network. Plus I don't think it would work anyway, since the spoof trick is explicitly stated to not work with u-verse in that thread about doing it for internet only.

Yeah, I remember when I put my RG in passthrough mode and connected one of the Wireless STB via WPS to my Nighthawk, each stream would begin playing for about 3 seconds then freeze from
