[Business] Terrible Practice Should Be Illegal

jaseinatl posted : I was one of the unfortunate idiots who couldn't wait for the NoCap service to come around to XFinity, so I signed both my law firm and a non-profit organization up for Comcast Business and it has been the worst experience of my professional career other than phone service through Mitel over Comcast Business.

When I was unable to secure the correct designation as a non-profit organization, we dissolved the group and attempted to disconnect our business account. At the time, I had it connected to my apartment and we moved out of state. Comcast Business would not help me with my contract.

As such, I ended up paying for 3 years on a contract that provided half-assed service at 40mbps to a location that I did not inhabit. I was paying 150.00 per month for service and there was no way out of the contract. First of all they suck for that.

None-the-less, I signed the forms to have the service disconnected in December of 2016 and continued to pay and pay. January rolls around and they can't find my disconnect request. Furthermore, they refuse to take my docusign document showing that I scheduled the disconnect 2.5 years in advance.

So, I agreed to sign another disconnect so that they would stop charging me for a connection I had not used in 2 years and could not have access to. I signed the latest form and they agreed to take the charges off my account.

It's now the middle of February and I get 5-10 calls per day from their automated system telling me that I have a past-due balance. When I talked to Retention, they said that it takes about 2 billing cycles AFTER you sign the disconnect (so 3, really) to get them to disconnect your service and to zero out your balance.

If this had been my law firm, we would have just automatically paid the bill and they would likely keep the money. As it was, I cannot afford to pay the $300+ dollars for the service that should have been disconnected just so it makes it easier for the billing department

I cannot help but feel that this is somehow fraudulent and I intend to speak with my congressmen and the FCC about this practice. I would like to have Comcast Business audited to see how many extraneous payments they receive and keep over the 3 months of service they charge for while waiting to disconnect you.

It wouldn't be so bad if they were competent but they just aren't. They charge more for service than anyone else and they provide terrible up-time and the speeds are laughable. I regularly have to switch my network at my office to Cellular because Comcast Business just doesn't work. In a law firm, phones are critical and having downtime because you were foolish enough to sign with Comcast Business is enough to kill off your entire practice. It has already cost my office 4 attorneys and may put the law firm out of business altogether.

If anyone has any information that could help ensure that this kind of terrible business practice doesn't continue, please let me know.

Oh, and when I called today to explain that their automated system calls me 5-10 times daily claiming my account is past due, Tiara's advice was that I should block their number. Great business model.
