its strange, because the amazon prime app is available on almost every platform .. including PS4, samsung and android tv... etc...

it seems TIVO in Canada is the only platform missing it, despite the fact the app does exist in the States....

Anyway, I guess COGECO abandoned all their plans with TIVO in light of the new IP TV platform coming out next year... Does anybody else have any news?

They probably wouldn't like my reponse to that question as a) I'm paying enough as it and b) it's a feature that's already in the unit.

For my the voice would make using the tivo easier for my wife who's physically disabled. She can use the current remote but sometimes when you have Cerebral palsy the body doesn't want to do what the brain says.

I said I liked the feature and think it's a good addition but that I personally probably wouldn't pay extra since I already have a harmony hub plus Google home mini etc.

Maybe they plan to charge a monthly fee for the new remotes with mic button etc..

Maybe not.. who knows...

One could likely purchase the remote standalone elsewhere anyway.

And going by what I've read the voice support that Alexa and google home use for Tivo (which is available in the U.S atm) leverages the voice command system that Tivo started developing.

I'm waiting to see if they we get support for smart home assistants added so they can be utilized for voice control.

Basically the TIVO menu interface is no longer a totally separate window with a live tv box in the top right corner... Instead, its a translucent menu..

The current vertical options, become horizontal... Its a little more customizable...

The other big thing that they had to test out was a new TIVO bean remote with a microphone button... and the ability to control TIVO through voice..

The voice control was pretty responsive with being able to simply tap the buttons and request that the TIVO establish one pass recordings for shows etc. or Play a movie... For example, saying play Movie A on Netflix would work simply by pressing the microphone button...

or one could simply say "Change the channel to AMC" and it would change to AMC (HD if available, SD if not).....

The interface also has a really great way of showing you the different services that currently provide a movie with little icons. i.e. its clear to see if a movie is available OnDemand, on a specific channel, Netflix etc.

The guy said Amazon Prime and CraveTV support would be coming by tht end of the year -- I hope they also get CBS all access...

I really see no reason why COGECO TIVO wouldn't allow the app as long as TIVO allowed it:

There is the TIVO support page for the amazon prime video app - I notice the page says amazon prime video is only available in the 50 States; However, this likely has just not been updated to reflect the recent international rollout of amazon prime video..
