superericla posted : That's a standard 3-port jack and not an AT&T branded jack, but the idea remains. The picture in the OP is usually called a biscuit jack around here. Both serve the same function, just different use-cases.

The phone jack your current VoIP provider is using just runs through that cat v cable to where the other lines in your home converge (likely in a box on the outside, possibly in a basement or crawl space). Removing Uverse and switching to cable won't have any effect on your current VoIP setup. Even if you change your VoIP provider they would still be able to use that same phone jack to feed other lines in the home.

sd70mac posted : The short answer is yes, you can continue backfeeding the telephone voice signals into your house wiring as before. I am in a similar situation to you, but I already switched (to Comcast and Ooma). The U-verse branded jack has three ports: an orange one for data (now unused), VoIP in, and a third jack for connecting a telephone directly.

mps60 posted : I am thinking of switching from UVerse to my local cable op for an ISP.

Am using an Obihai 200 with another VOIP provider for phone service.

My current UVerse wall jack has connections for the data cable and the Obihai. If I switch to cable, will that jack still work w/o UVerse service for just the VOIP? Can I still run the Obihai to it for whole-house phone service, or does the cable installer have to do something for the phone to continue working?
<TABLE WIDTH=96% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

My current situation
