[Equip] Recommendation for leased modem.I am currently leasing a TG1682G gateway that suffers from the dreaded Intel Puma6 chipset. After putting up with various issues related to this broken chipset, I am ready to switch to a gateway using Broadcom. Can I do that? How do I proceed and which gateway would be recommended.
Thanks. |

Right now there are no Broadcom gateways for lease from Comcast. This should be changing soon when the XB6 comes out but its unknown when that'll be. Have you considered purchasing your own? Do you subscribe to Xfinity voice? |

Right now I am on Internet Only, but I'd like to have the option to expand to TV and maybe voice services next year after my current promotional deal expires. I am considering buying a Netgear CM600 plus a separate router but hesitant about being locked in to old technology with no options for firmware updates. I don't want to give up my current 24 bonded channels and the Netgear seems to be the only Broadcom based option at the moment.
On the Comcast equipment page it shows a Netgear C7800 as a Docsis 3.1 gateway option but it looks like it may be available only for Gigabit speed service, at least for now. Otherwise I cannot find any information about it. |

The devices listed under the Gigabit speed service are also compatible with the slower speed tiers. The Arris SB8200 is listed along side the Netgear C7800 but I'm using it for my Blast tier without a problem, as are many other customers. The same is true for the Netgear CM1000.
Both the Arris SB8200 and Netgear CM1000 are Broadcom based stand alone modems. Both offer 32 bonded downstream channels for DOCSIS 3.0, as well as support the next generation DOCSIS 3.1, so using either won't require you to give up your 24 bonded downstream channels, and you won't be "locked into old technology with no options for firmware updates". In fact, either modem will give you room for additional bonded downstream channels if Comcast decides to implement them in your market.
Like you, I've not been able to find any other information on the Netgear C7800 gateway, besides on the approved modem list. |

Thanks. That's good to know. My understanding is that neither of those modems are available for lease and both will require buying a modern wireless router which I don't have. I tried bridging my current modem to an old wireless router and the result was pathetic. Is the Netgear C7800 gateway available for lease? If so, how do I get Comcast to let me swap my leased TG1682G for it? |

Unfortunately the Netgear C7800 isn't available for lease from Comcast. They have on the other hand started leasing the XB6 in a few select markets, but it is unclear when it will be available nationwide. |

I am considering the new Zoom Motorola MB8600. Any reason not to buy it? Thanks. |

There shouldn't be. It's very new to market so whether or not there are problems with it is unknown at this time. I personally prefer Arris products, but there are others on the forums that swear by Zoom products. In any case, be sure to purchase it from a store with a good return policy in the unlikely scenario that you run into problems with if or change your mind. |

I was asking about the new Zoom Motorola MB8600 but after checking the SB8200 rave review by xymox1 I decided to go for the Arris product. I bought mine on eBay new in the box for $175 free shipping and no tax. Strangely, the modem was shipped from Amazon Fulfillment in Las Vegas. Curious how some eBay sellers can make a profit reselling through Amazon. This seller has listed more of them at the same price. |

Congrats on your new purchase! 😀 |

Is there still a list (somewhere) of the cable modems that are approved for Comcast but are NOT models they lease ? The "my device info" link seems to only show models for one's speed tier. I'd like to replace my Zoom 5341J but I do NOT want to buy a model that CC leases (personal reasons). Thanks very much. |

If you manually change the speed tier on the left side to a lower speed tier, you'll have more options. Also, Comcast doesn't lease stand alone modems anymore, only gateways, so any of them would be an option for you. Here is a list of leased gateways from Comcast » www.xfinity.com/support/ ··· compare/ so just avoid those model numbers. |
