AT&T Gigapower/Speed Questions?

So, I live in Joliet, IL 60436. Which AT&T Claims that GigaPower has been here since 2015. Address and different family addresses, shows otherwise. So for about a year now, I have been offered Internet 100. Which the chat and AT&T Reps claimed is 100/100, but the local store claims 100/20. How can I find out the truth? Also, I been told for about 2 years now that if 100Mb/s is offered to you, Then you can get GigaPower somehow. What the truth in this? I'd be willing to sign up for Internet 100 if I can get GigaPower. The VRAD is right across the street from me, Which also I was told is copper to fiber? I honestly don't know this stuff. I always had Comcast and still do, but would like to drop them for AT&T GigaPower, Symmertrical speeds.

AT&T can claim a city has 'Gigapower' when in reality it's less than 10% of the city (as is my case).

Chances are if your max is 100Meg, then it's VDSL2 from "VRAD" (DSLAM). The VRAD itself is Fiber fed, however your house will get DSL over copper.

It would be the 100/20 service.

Best way to check is go to att.com/getfiber and if it says "congrats, you receive a 100% Fiber internet connection, then you'd be FTTP. If not, it's DSL.

This is the information I needed. I knew its was 100/20 here. What you said about VDSL2 Sounds 10000% Correct. I remember having a AT&T Tech installing Internet for a neighbor down the block, and I asked him about this. I'm 99% sure he said that. Thanks Again.

You are lucky. Very few VDSL customers qualify for 100/20 service.

Really? Any reason why? Why can't they upgrade my area to GigaPower?

How close are you to the VRAD? I'm going to speculate that it is in your yard, or your neighbor's yard. You have to be really close to the VRAD to get those speeds.

You are already on the best Uverse system short of Fiber. AT&T is upgrading people over time, and there are prioritizing.

Are your utilities above ground or below? if they are below, I don't think you will see fiber anytime soon.

But thanks for subscribing to 100/20, I think the more people max out their speeds, the more financial justification there is for capital projects like Gigafiber.

A lot of customers are too far away from the remote to receive 100/20.

They could upgrade your area to 100% FTTP, but that requires additional equipment, time/labour, and fiber runs.

AT&T is on target to provide FTTP to only >20% of their wireline footprint by 2019, so that shows their dedication right there.

They are also only promising that 25.7 Million of their 77 Million locations served will be able to obtain speeds of at a least 45Mbps by 2019.

That leaves a vast majority of their wireline footprint stuck in the dark with slow, and antiquated speeds.

Across the street is the VRAD. So very close like you said. Well, Maybe one day I'll get GigaPower.

Honestly, I didn't even think about getting AT&T Until I moved and noticed it across the street.

Yeah you're def close to the VRAD. I believe the guideline for 100/20 on loop length is 1,000 feet. At least according to a internal AT&T document that appeared on this site briefly My loop length is a little over 700 feet and I was able to get 100/20.

Any chance you could post your gateway stats?

There is a chance that they will have a higher tier in the future, like 120/40.

I really hope so. Those of us close to the VRAD still have quite a bit of speed we could squeeze out of the ole VDSL2. Esp us with bonded pairs on N cards. My loop length is a little over 700 feet and I have a max sync of 190 Mbps! Could do 150/30 I think.

Like I said, I have Comcast. I wouldn't downgrade from Gig Speeds with Comcast to AT&T 100Mb/s Service.
Just was wondering how I can get the Gig Service from AT&T.

Just have to wait until it is available. It will be awhile for you.
