cr2307 posted : I currently have the Ultimate TV, 50/50 internet, Unlimited Phone package and pay $160/mo. I never watch any of the "premium" channels. I am no longer under contract. I keep receiving Optimum offers Value tv package, 300/35 internet, unlimited phone, plus dvr for 24 months and showtime for 1 year for $79.99 plus stb ($108.95).

I opened a chat with a rep (as the cancellation number says to call during normal business hours) and I explain how I can no longer afford $160/mo. and that I received a competitive offer from Optimum but wanted to see if Verizon could adjust my package to save me money. The rep asked about my internet habits (mostly working from home and Netflix streaming) and the TV stations I watch (basic cable plus channels like AMC, History, Discovery, HGTV , etc.). He first camhttp://www.dslreports.com/welcomee back with a package: Fios Local tv package, same phone and an upgrade to 75/75 internet. Lowered the cost by $2. Literally. And the tv package didn't include ANY of the channels I said I wanted. When I meant that I couldn't afford paying $160/month, I meant that I needed to save more than $2.

So he goes back (I was waiting FOREVER) and he comes back with a different package: : Fios TV Preferred HD +Fios Internet 50/50 +Fios Digital Voice Unlimited for $181.45 /month. So he lowered the internet back down to the 50/50 I have now and reduced the Ultimate TV to Preferred and it wound up costing me $21 more!?!

I asked how this could be:
Me: How does Verizon compete when another company offers the same preferred tv package, internet 6x faster and unlimited phone service for only $79.99/mo?
Rep: As Verizon provides Fios.

Nice answer. I guess I have no choice but to call them direct tomorrow during normal business hours and see if someone is willing to negotiate. If not, I'll cancel and call Optimum (no contract). I wasn't expecting Verizon to give me new customer prices, but I was hoping that they'd be reasonable. I guess not.

But I don't have the time to play the game, I work too many hours. I want to move on and be done with it....would like to avoid the hassles switching but oh well.....
