Re: SB8200 32x8 3.1 cable modem - Feedback and Results thread

Click for full size
I just got the SB8200 which was ordered from Arris directly that was shipped by their vender by USPS Priority mail yesterday to replace the SB6190. ISP is Comcast in San Francisco, CA with BlastPro 200Mbps/10Mbps service.

I tried going to www.comcast.com/activate and www.xfinity.com/activate after the modem had solid green lights for everything except the downstream was blue (is it normal to have a DOCSIS 3.1 for downstream and DOCSIS 3.0 for upstream? as there are 33 downstream channels (32 DOCSIS 3.0 + one 3.1) and 4 upstream channels but it seemed like the browser failed the DNS lookup no matter if I use the desktop, laptop or mobile device on Wi-Fi so I called 1-800-COMCAST and provided the serial number, MAC ID to activate the modem and I am online. The software version is D31CM-PEREGRINE-1.0.1.0-GA-01-NOSH.

With my wireless router, NETGEAR R7000 running XWRT (ported ASUS RMerlin WRT) v380.66_2, I was unable to connect to status page at 192.168.100.1 as it seems port 80 times out while port 8080 at the same IP will get me to the spectrum analyzer as I have also try manually telneting to IP 192.168.100.1 port 80 which times out while 8080 connects fine. I can also ping and traceroute 192.168.100.1 without issues.

A computer directly connected to the GiGE ports also allows accessing the status page. Thanks to others in this thread, I found out how to get the status page working behind the router.

Apparently what happens is that with the router that works fine to get to the status page on the SB6190, not the same case with the SB8200. The LAN has to be on 192.168.1.x before the status page would work. My network is on 192.168.2.x so I had to switch the LAN config to 192.168.1.1 as the routers IP and load the status page and then switch the LAN's config back to 192.168.2.1 on the router and the status page continues working until I try to use nmap and port scan the modem which breaks it again requiring me to do the trick again. Once it works, all clients behind the router including mobile phones and tablets, desktop and laptops can all access the status page. A reboot of the modem will break things again and requires the trick again. How does one report bugs to Arris, as I remember there was someone from Arris who is on DSLR but I forgot his name.

My router is on 192.168.10.x. I did not have to change anything on the router to get the page to load. I just had to wipe my browsers cache file and I was able to get it to pull up without issue. maybe a problem with x.x.2.x?

Which router and firmware are you using? It was someone else on page 3 of this thread that mentioned having to go to 192.168.10.x before it would work. It's not the browsers cache file because when it didn't work, my mobile devices which already has the cache wiped doesn't work and once I got it working, the mobile devices work too and when it breaks, the mobile devices don't work so it may be only certain CIDR/24's in the 192.168.x.x that don't work since it would be hard to test the entire CIDR/16 aka Class B IPv4. I have rebooted the modem and you're right, 192.168.10.x works fine so it seems like some of the CIDR/24's doesn't work right with the SB8200. Maybe you or someone else can try 192.168.2.x on the router after rebooting the modem and see if it works or not.

I am using a ASUS RT-AC68U with the latest Asuswrt-Merlin. I would be willing to change the default gateway but I have a lot of static IPs for devices and when I changed to 192.168.10.x it broke a lot. So sorry I am not willing to go thought that again if I do not need too. Sorry

Technically, we're using pretty similar setups as I'm using the same latest ASUSWRT RMerlin ported on my Netgear R7000. I thought you were already using 192.168.10.x though so you didn't need to change anything. I think the easiest way is still to just add a alias IP to the router as 192.168.100.x so that it talks to the modem on the same subnet except I don't know which interface to put it on.
