I mean I disagree on the multiple bootable backups on one drive vs having it on several drives. I think I failed to specify that bit. I know I wouldn't necessarily want to invest in several different drives for backup, especially if I keep them in one place. What I actually do is keep one drive at work and one at home, and back up to each of those. Protects me in case of fire and whatnot.

The Dv8or posted : I disagree on the lack of need for multiple bootable backups. Its protection against OS/software failure. No, it won't protect against HW failure, but its an added layer of protection. One can argue whether you need it or not, but its not like its completely useless or counterproductive.

rjackal posted : As long as you didn't backup to a folder, the next backup you do will update your original backup with any changed files.
That's the most common use case when using CCC.
You don't really need to have multiple bootable backups on one disk. If the disk fails, all your backups go with it.
If you want redundant bootable backups -- which is a good idea -- you should have multiple external drives. Ideally one of the drives would be kept off-site.

Also, CCC has a very good help system online. I just purchased CCC and have been looking at it quite a bit over the last week:

»bombich.com/kb/ccc4/how- ··· t-backup

»bombich.com/kb/ccc4

grreyeyezz posted : Late 15 imac, 1TB fusion drive. I'm getting a 2TB external drive, I want to backup individual files and folders(documents, pictures, downloads, bookmarks, outlook) periodically but also want a CCC bootable backup on the same drive. Do I just partition the 2TB drive in half using disk utility? Also when making a bootable backup do I need to include the apple recovery partition? I haven't done that yet.

thanks.
