I've had the exact same problem and the solution I found is really simple. All you have to do is rename your v_r.mdl files to v.mdl. CS 1.4 only takes into consideration the v.mdl files, and doesn't make use of any right-hand model files anymore.

Ive not found any of those V_r.mdl files on my HDD. there is a vir_heli.mdl though...
