Republican FCC won't stop it, either....

The reason AT&T stopped doing it was because the FCC was going to put a stop to it anyways. They stopped doing it at a time in the campaign when Trump was doing poorly in the polls, and HRC was likely going to win it. Then as soon as Trump won, AT&T was one of the lobbyists to push the GOP to get rid of broadband privacy restrictions, and this is the result of that.

AT&T and other companies are going to test how far they can go with the Trump administration, and that administration has let it known quite clearly that corporations are king, and the people can shove it up their behind.... because corporations are people, and some people are more people then other people, in particular people with heaps of money and expensive lobbyists and lawyers.

This is what you get when you let corporate America run the show. Trump didn't clean up Washington, he just let a bunch of Wall Street bozo's in to run his government, with the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition as their main guide book....

A Star Trek thing. Here is the full list: »memory-beta.wikia.com/wi ··· uisition

It comes with rules like "Greed is eternal", and "The justification for profit is profit".

Trumps own quote "You can't be too greedy" - COULD be a rule.

That vapid old witch was never likely to win no matter how many times people like you repeat it.

And besides, the internet has never been and never will be secure. If you think you have privacy on an open, peer to peer internetwork, you're sadly naive. Anyone who really wants to know already knows what you're up to online. That ship has sailed.

If I can get cheaper internet service, why should I care if ONE MORE company is watching what I do. There's already a plethora doing it (Facebook, Google, and others) that I get NO benefit from whatsoever because I don't use their platforms. And no one is bringing up regulating those privacy invading behemoths.

If someone wants he government to regulate the privacy policies of every internet company, including the worst offenders like Facebook, I'll get behind that. But singling out telcos on here because you hate them to your core is just an unfair comparison.

You realize you get no benefit from this either. Only AT&T does, in more profits. However, I will not disagree with you, every other website in the world does it, why should they be the only ones not allowed?

Websites and ISP is vastly different you know? Website many ways to block it and simply just not use it. Website will only see information you allow it. ISP will see everything all the websites all your actions even access to your home network trough router if they want, You just can't just go to hundreds of alternative ISP's very few options probably just one to keep your data hidden.

I'm not saying that. The polls did. Up to a week before the election, HRC was polling 6-7% ahead of Trump. Pence had already made plans for the week after the election that indicated that he wouldn't be the VP. All the signs were there.

Trump won for several reasons. The most important being that the democrats failed to understand the needs of blue collar workers in states like Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. They didn't connect with them, and Trump promised to re-open the coal mines and bring them loads of jobs. Yes, there was the Comey thing with HRC's email, and yes, even Trump now says the Russians were involved in hacking the election.

But of course.... those polls were created by "fake media" such as Fox News, Reuters, CNN, Rasmussen, MSNBC, Gallup, NY Times, Washington Post, etc.... and not my "real media", whatever that is....

The people had a number of choices. Several Democrats. Several Republicans. And one PIG.

America chose the PIG and wrapped it in a GOP flag to make it look nice.

There is a difference between websites, of which there are MILLIONS, and you can choose to not visit them, disable cookies, and visit sites that don't track anything such as Duck Duck Go..... and having only 2 ISP's in town, telco and cable, and both of them tracking everything you do.

There is going to be a booming business model for VPN providers.....

Problem is Ferengi don't believe in bankruptcy. Instead of the Divine Treasury, he'd be staring down the Vault of Eternal Destitution.

You would be quite pissed if the phone company listened in on every call you make and sold that information to anyone who will pay. That's what you're defending. Facebook = destination. AT&T = owner of the streets that connect to your driveway. You don't know the difference, the only thing you're left with is to call Hillary Clinton a vapid old witch, and ironically, to say that people who have good comprehensive skills are sadly naive.

His real media is Breitbard and most of the time Fox and Rush type radio.

I tried to read an article that some company was trying to create an internet using the hash blockchain like Bitcoin works on. I think it will be like a VPN using blockchain to encrypt the data.

Because they are a communications company, like the phone company? Because they are not a "website"? Because they are a transit service and not an information service? Because tapping private communications is illegal? Because unlike Facebook, Google, Yahoo, etc.... ISPs see EVERYTHING you do, not just what you do on a particular site?

The same rules/laws what govern what can and can't be done on our telephone system should apply to ISPs as well, they are the same sort of communications service -- they ship packets of data from one point to another, a dumb pipe, they have no right to mess with, alter, or sell that data, it doesn't belong to them, it belongs to US.

Oh, and finally, if you are going to sell something of mine, which has value (like my personal information) then you had better PAY ME for that information. Taking it, is THEFT! The BALLS these bastards have to want to charge me for MY data, when they should be paying me for it. What fucking BALLS!!!

We all need to be more personally Ferengi about this!! Demand payment for the use of YOUR data! It's only fair.

Isn't that what's happening? They are giving you a discount if you agree to let them sell your data if you don't allow it your bill will be an extra $25/mo or so or something like that.

Excuse me! A "discount" is NOT paying me. It's my data, I get to set the price, not the buyer. I don't want $25.00. I want $2500.00.

That narrative may not be so valid if 2016 really was scared white people and their "anxiety about Mexicans, Muslims and blacks".

I've come to see Trump as an idiot savant. An idiot, but optimized (the "fittest" in Darwinian terms) for the the current media and partisan environment.

A penny saved is a penny earned. You can use the savings to get a nice VPN and or VPS and still have some left over.

Also I just guessed at the number after actually checking it turns out I undershot it by $5/mo.

They can't be making even $2/mo on your information it's just not worth that much in aggregate. So most of it is a penalty.
But since it's a discount most people go along with it instead of it being an extra charge.
A few years ago the cellcos tried to charge extra for paper billing and everyone got really pissed over it and they decided to keep it free. Now they have figured out they can offer a discount and people won't complain since it's now a discount instead of a fee and still have the exact same result without the complaints.

Under AT&T's Gigapower high-speed Internet service, customers could only get the lowest available rate if they agreed to let AT&T track their activity. Customers who wanted to maintain the privacy of their online life typically had to pay $30 more per month.
