Re: [Connectivity] netgear cm600 Having packet loss while gaming

Okay so I was able to remove my 3 way splitter that the last comcast tech was using to drop our signal instead of a -6db atteuner, picture above is what it was with the splitter and what it is now with the -6db piece added on the line instead. I'm assuming it's still all in good range not too low not too high, etc.

Im not an expert but you have a 6db swing going on from channel 14 to channel 8. Thats a large difference. Might actually have a line issue. Maybe someone else can jump in. Also your snr on the 3 channels that are low are barely in the recommended spec. You for sure want 35 db snr or higher. 37 would be ideal. The fact that you habe many channels at 37 snr and then you have those 3 channels around the 600mhz frequency very close to 35 snr tells me you likely have leakage somewhere.

Do you have the capability to plug your modem directly into the termination point on your residence? Just to rule out inside wiring? I would be curious the difference in snr and power levels.

My cable line setup as it stands right now goes as follows.. (coax cable from street cable box -> grounding bridge adapter -> coax cable to modem -> -6db piece)

Doesn't go through anything else and the grounding piece is there cause the first coax cable isn't long enough to reach into our house. The only thing these comcast techs have yet to do for replacing any thing listed above is to add a brand new coax cable leading from the street cable box to our house to see if that's why?

My issue with modem signals is sadly I don't know enough about it to gage what is good.. Plus the fact that our comcast techs who come out the first thing out of their mouth is "well I checked the signals and they're right around where we'd want them to be".

If I have to get another tech to come out to replace that one coax cable for us, I should mention to them that my modem's signals have a 6db swing going on with some channels, along with the snr on a few barely in recommended spec? My main issue is dealing with comcast techs in the first place.. in this area the ones sent out aren't really trained by the looks of it. (last one that came out we told them we didn't want any splitters since we were dropping our tv service with comcast in the week.. what does he do?.. he installs a new line for the other splitter that has all our tv cables installed there.. then he makes use of that 3 way splitter for our internet but keeps a 1 foot coax cable on the other output which isn't used for anything.

Personally i wouldnt use any attenuators for now and see how it goes. +12 shouldn't cause any issues and it keeps your lowest power around 6.

But yes if you still have issues you will have to let them know you have 3 to 4 channels with low snr.

Okay I'll undo the -6db attenuator here in the next hour and see what the signals look like and post them here. I'll keep it with that set up over night while I play some games and such, then I'll update before I go to sleep with the modem signals again to see if things look fine.

I thought with most dbmv lvls should be close to +0 with -10 between +10 being acceptable? Again sorry I'm not experienced with signal levels but thought I heard that somewhere. Otherwise Thanks for the help so far I'll keep that in mind for if I need to get a tech out again so I can see what they tell me.

Technically - 15 to +15 but some devices like things different.

Okay yeah all I could fine on the topic was this link below, I'll check how things look. I'm also going to setup my new ethernet cables tonight too so those are brand new.
