[HSI] 24x8 TP-Link 7650 / 7650-E Cable Modem Results so far

Click for full size
Just grabbed one of these.

Here is what it looks like on Charter's network for my area in Richland Center, WI.

Could not get it to self install - had to call it in. Took a bit but it is solid so far.

Is there any testing you would like me to do on this particular modem and how would I go about doing that? I know the modem has been out awhile but I had not seen any Charter customers discuss it.

TP-Link told me it uses "BCM3384DU + BCM3184 + BGU7045" when I asked about chipsets. Only reason I got this modem is because a rep set us up with an Arris TM1602A which uses that notorious Intel Puma 6 chipset and that I had not seen anyone from this Charter forum use it either.

Really, REALLY wish Charter would offer faster upload speeds for Richland Center, WI.

EDIT: here is the modem, which goes on sale often. Lowest I've heard was $65, I paid 78.88.

what did the reps tell you about why you still only have 1 upload channel?

They had no idea - our area doesn't offer above that basically. Same old same old.

Business starts at 100/7 I found out too, unless the rep was lying, which I understand is a very common thing. We are residential but I told them I would think about business just so I could get their offers.

would you have to use another name to get a new customer rate with business?

I wouldn't think so since we would be a new business customer anyway, but even so, that would be easy since the house isn't in my name, but I am responsible for everything with Charter. The account is in the name of the house owner. I have permission to speak and deal with Charter however in their system and they acknowledge it in their records every time I call. I never need to get the owner on the phone basically.

EDIT: before anyone asks, no, I am not a kid, I'm 42 and young at heart.

It wasn't that many weeks ago the we finally got upstream bonding here. I guess they still need to upgrade a lot of areas.

I want everyone to get the bonding because if 100/10 is going to become base speed for the 50% of customers that don't have it yet they are probably going to do most of the 100 increase all at once.

I think they should start 100/10 residential just before the fall starts but I know it won't happen. That only gives them 2 months.

Yeah pretty sure they will wait as long as possible, knowing this company.

...or never do it

Would be nice to see some speed tests and see how the new TPlink stacks up .

I'm out of Stevens Point WI and we got 4channel upstream bonding about three months ago. Didn't change much of anything though and only getting 16 downstreams.

Haven't checked for higher then the usual 100/7 for business yet.

Did you previously get TWC?

Speed tests will only show that I am given the speed I pay for, unless you mean something else.

UI does not show corrected/uncorrectables.

Also so far this is giving me zero issues while gaming, while two Netflix streams are going at the same time, unlike the TM1602.

Good to hear. I am in Richland Center on a single upload channel but I also know even our capital (Madison) is on a single channel, or at least the East side is. Someone here said Fitchburg has channel bonding which is close to the West side.

Don't do it! If you go business kiss your modem good buy. They do NOT let you use your own modems for business class!!

I know Wisconsin Dells also has Business Service at 300/20. My brother had it installed the other day. Not sure about upload channels, but pretty sure if he's getting that they must've already bonded the uploads over there.

I assume it used to be under TWC.

Just got my new TP-Link 7650 today.
I have the TWC MAXX 300/20 service here North of Syracuse, NY.
I'm getting 350+/24 with 24 DL channels and 4 UL.

Firmware is v1.0.3 Build 20161117 Rel358190

Service call opened as my signal levels are low. Will post update if I see any change after it's fixed.

What are your levels roughly?

Mine look great from the info I've gathered from other posts anyway. The closer to zero the better, yes?

Looks like we have the same firmware.

Your signal levels all look fine. Yes, the closer to 0 dBmV your downstream power levels are the better.

I do wish, however that the TP-Link UI would show you Codeword (Unerrored, corrected, uncorrectable) info for each channel.

My levels are -8 to -10. Around 0 is the goal. I have a 3 way splitter ahead of my modem as I also have a TWC phone modem and a Tuning Adapter for my HDHomerun TV tuner. So I'm guessing they will run a 2nd line up from the block in the basement.

Since activating my new modem I haven't had IPv6 service. TWC says it's not their problem. I'm talking with TP-Link and they are having a tech looking into it.

I have IPv6 but I am on a Charter area and not a previously-TWC one.

TWC came out to house today. Ran a new "home run" cable from modem to power box in basement. (moved other two (phone and TV) to other run on 2 way splitter)

Now modem power is showing -2 to -3 numbers.

TWC will be sending out a line truck to fix the street level issues. The neighborhood should thank me. 8^) Then I should improve even more.

I still haven't heard from the TP-Link engineer about my IPv6 issue.
