[Equip] Re: Just received a letter saying that my docsis 2 modem will die

Are they at least bumping up the 25mpbs service? Would suck having to get a new modem just to continue using the 25mbps service when my modem is working fine.

Some areas have been increased to 55 but I have no idea if your area has or will be.

Perhaps it already has been but the modem can not do that speed.

My state was just recently upgraded: »washington.comcast.com/2 ··· devices/

One of the risks of bringing your own is it may reach end of support at any time with or without notice....this one they've been warning about for 4-5 years at least.
Not sure you'll see an speed upgrade on a low end plan, at least not right away, but regaining use of the channels set aside for D2 users is nessecary to be able to eventually raise EVERYONE'S speed
you almost certainly got your money's worth on that one, many times over.

Another modem to consider, what I call the workhorse, the SB6183. 16 channel modem, relatively well priced, and comes in black and white. »www.amazon.com/ARRIS-SUR ··· 0MA5U1FW

No, the SB6183 uses the Broadcom BCM33843 16x4 chipset. You may be thinking of the SB6190, which uses the Intel Puma 6.

Stated a bit differently, when you bring your own modem, you have the responsibility to assure that your modem continues to play nicely with the other kids on Comcast's network. Bringing your own modem to the party is not all fun with no responsibility.

That is, it becomes your responsibility to assure that your modem not only "Works" on Comcast's network, but remains compatible with Comcast's network plans.

In my experience owning modems, Comcast has been very accommodating of the "bring your own modem" customers. Plenty of warning is given when a modem is going to be deprecated.

I currently have a SB6120 (4x4) that is growing long in the tooth.

Going forward, I'm looking forward to any holiday sales that will net me one of those shiny new DOCSIS 3.1 modems. In other words, I should be off the SB6120 within a year.
