[Speed Issues] Streaming Lag

Started experiencing lag streaming video at any time of day, though otherwise the connection is fine. Could jitter to the first hop be the cause? And can I get Charter to fix it? (I've tried two computers, wired directly to the modem)

Most common cause of latency delay is from packet re-transmissions done because of problems with the DOCSIS signal over the coaxial wire. Can you ping modem's 192.168.100.1 without problem? If so, post your modem's signal levels from the diagnostic webpage available at the same IP. You are looking for correctables/Uncorrectables on the downstream and any upstream power above 48dB.

Looks like a Puma 6 if you ask me... Does it still do it if you ping 192.168.100.1 ?

ping to modem is steady, it's just that second hop that has spikes

Great signal levels, what modem are you using?

That isn't latency spike/jitter, but ICMP deprioritization. The packet only took 1-2ms to get from hop 1 to hop 3, but hop 2 sometimes took up to 361ms to report that it had routed the packet. If the packets had actually been getting delayed 361ms then you would see a much higher Avrg at hop 3. ICMP deprioritization is normal and it's about giving UDP/TCP traffic priority over the ICMP packet the tool uses.

Can you explain what you mean when you say "streaming lag"? Do mean streaming video into your computer like Youtube or streaming video TO a site like Twitch? Can you do a DSLR Speedtest?
