car was standing 60 days w/o usewe purchased an old Honda Civic to cruise Philippines
but we had to leave it to fly out to Palawan ... hard to take a car there ...
it's been standing for 60 days so far
what should of have we done to it - prior to leaving? * disconnect the battery - so it would not drain?
* what else?
what can we expect now? what care / inspection / maintenance should be taken upon return?
thank you ... |

Could of put it on a battery tender before leaving I suppose? 2 months isn't anything, just get in it and start it up unless the battery is dead in which case just charge it up. |

If the car has a computer with a constant current draw, chances are you'll have a dead battery upon return. Just charge it up, and hopefully it will be good to go. Worst case is that you need to get a new battery.
For future reference, there are solar chargers ($10 - $20) that plug into the cigarette lighter, and they are usually enough to keep the battery from going dead. |

The car probably sat on the dealer's lot for longer than that when it was originally delivered. |

For a healthy battery, chances are he will be fine when he gets back. Many cars can't use a solar charger in the cig or accessory socket. These sockets are depowered when the vehicle is shut off. |

I left a car parked once for 6 months outdoors over the winter. I did nothing after parking it or when starting it in the spring. It started up perfectly fine too, the battery was maybe 3 years old at the time and the car was 10. I always get the highest grade Interstate battery in the largest size that will fit when replacing a battery. |

Older car and good battery will probably be fine after 60 days.
More modern vehicles tend to have greater draw on the battery when sitting and probably won't make 60 days without the battery being discharged. |

the problem is, once the battery is drained dead, it will never have the same capacity it once had, this is from experience!. |

The worst thing that can happen to a car sitting 60 days is it getting stolen or vandalized, stripped for it's parts |
