VoIP is considered a landline for this purposes, as it is a binary choice between wireline and wireless.
CLECs generally service both physical landline service and nomadic VoIP service. |

Interestingly, twilio, calleridtest, voip.ms, and whocalld show my real name for CNAM for my free Callcentric DID. I wonder where that is getting pulled from? I specifically opted out of being listed in the Callcentric directory.
CallWithUs lists it as "Manhattan, NY" which is what I would expect.
Is Callcentric known for assigning CNAM entries for their FREE DIDs? I don't make outgoing calls from Callcentric. |

CallCentric has a separate setting for CNAM than the CC directory. This is true whether it is a free DID or a paid DID. You can select what the CNAM is. |

By contrast, regarding outbound CNAM (as josephf said), log into the CallCentric dashboard, then go to PREFERENCES, then to CNAM to specify your options. |

CNAM databases are populated from line information databases (LIDB) maintained by ILECs and CLECs. It's up to the ITSP to ask the LEC to enter CNAM into his LIDB. This is called CNAM storage (at least that's what Flowroute calls it). Some ITSPs charge a fee for this. Callcentric doesn't, and yes, they do it for their free DIDs as well. CNAM lookup on inbound calls doesn't apply to Canada: CNAM is transmitted with the call. |

If those fields are blank, I believe they will then use the name you specified when you opened your account. That's a default. I believe that going to PREFERENCES---> CONTACT INFO can change that name if you wish. ----- Also you [could] make outbound PSTN calls with that number: 1) To 911, unless you stated that you were not in the US or Canada. 2) If there is any funding in the account, you can activate an outbound calling plan (even if just the PAYG) in a split second. And CC is thus just being prepared for that possibility if you ever decide to do it. |

I recall a significant influx of spam calls being confirmed on this very forum a few years ago after signing up with these guys. |

It still adds your name correctly to the CNAM data bases, I use them. But I never get spam phone calls because the auto attendant screens them out. |

I did this for a couple of GV numbers, and left them alone for a few months until the unwanted activity died down. But yeah there was a time about 3 weeks after doing this that the call volume was huge - from insurance to newspapers to credit cards. And I used the street address of the local post office with our PO Box as a "suite" in it. For one of these numbers, the CNAM was populated fairly broadly: Verizon still shows the name I put in, as does Callcentric. AT&T (POTS) did for a while, but then it reverted to City, State. VOIP.MS never picked up either of the listings, nor did VOIPO. Of the online services, CallerIDtest and Twilo both have the name still populated. So it does work to a degree, but not 100%. I personally would not do it now because of the already overwhelming number of unsolicited calls but if you needed to have a listing and understood the limitations... |
