Blotches In Pictures with New Quantum Box 1 | 2 |
I have an LG OLED 65E6P but am getting "blotches" on my screen in some pictures. See attachments and advise if box is bad? Also, should setting be 1080i or 1080p? I have Quantum box. |

Is this a new install? Did the tech check the signal levels?
Bad connection or a bad splitter. Are you using an HDMI cable or composite?
Does the TV support 1080P? If yes then use it to upscale to 4K
Might have to play with the TV settings. |

It's an upgrade to Quantum from QIP box. Same wiring but on the prior VZ QIP install they had a MOCA signal booster in the wiring at the ONT which I disconnected because it appeared, I think, to be causing the other remote boxes (quantum) picture to lock up at times. After disconnecting the signal booster the picture lock up seems to be gone.
My TV is OLED 4K with HDMI. No tech did not check any signals. Just screwed in the boxes. |

That's strange they put a booster in. The signal from the ONT is pretty hot.
Must have a long cable run and more than one splitter.
Back to watching TV, enjoy. |

It happens to mine too but if I install the IPC client on the same TV instead of the VMS, it's fine and the blotches don't appear. I've been through two VMS units and the same occurred on both. I have a feeling it's a software issue that only appears on some TVs.
I gave up and moved an IPC client to my main TV and put the VMS on a TV that I don't really use much. Ironically, the blotches don't appear on the TV that I don't use much with the VMS but if I put the VMS back on my main TV, they appear. |

What Settings? I too am using a vms to an OLED65E6P, and don't see blotches. Suggest 1080P for general watching. You can get a slightly better picture by chosing 1080i for 1080i channels and 720P for 720p channels on this TV. The improvement of 720P using 720P to the set is more noticable. The TV has way better converters. |

You also have to check the input requirements of your TV. My Visio requires 1080P @60Hz |

Some folks over in the Verizon Fios forum are also complaining about Quantum picture quality on UHD TVs. See » 4K Samsungs / Quantum STB not sharp |

I've personally tried adjusting a bunch of settings on both the STB and the TV and it doesn't make a difference. I'm just resorting to using the IPC on my main TV instead and it looks great.
If I report this to Frontier, I doubt they're gonna do much besides maybe replace the VMS, which I know won't make a difference since it's already been done for other reasons. |

After upgrading to "quantum" 2 years go, I had the same problem. Three service calls later (by Verizon), they agreed to re-install the older Motorola boxes which have operated flawlessly ever since. |
