Looking for a cheap USB Wifi dongle for older laptop.

Hey guys,
So I have Windows 10 installed on an older laptop and with the built in Wifi chip it keeps dropping the connection and is very annoying (I think it's a Broadcomm chip???). I've read somewhere that this is a known issue with this chip and laptop that it isn't really compatible with Windows 10.
I'm looking for an USB Wifi dongle that is fully compatible with Windows 10.
The router I am using is an dual band (2.4/5GHz) Netgear WNDR3700v1 and can only do 802.11n/g, so purchasing an 802.11ac dongle is pointless.
As for the range, the laptop is located in the part of the house that used to be the garage which was now converted to the living room so the signal has 1 or 2 cement walls to go through.
The router is giving me a signal quality of 86% for that one laptop and I think Windows is saying it's an good connection. This laptop is just for internet and email, so I guess I don't need the 5GHz feature.

Looks good but it says USB 3.0, how does it work with USB 2.0? I guess it's backward compatible, like how ac falls back to work with 802.11n?

USB3.0 standard mandates backwards compatible with USB2.0

Good to know, just like how ac is backward compatible with n/g/b. It would be nice to see how many ac or 5GHz networks are out there.
How is the range on the stick? You might have different results than I would have, probably.

It was for one of my kids with an older Dell laptop. I don't know. It was an adapter that had more of a brand name and some decent reviews, middle of the road. I have had no complaints.

I absolutely love this one,

»www.amazon.com/dp/B01BV9 ··· F8&psc=1

it's a AC1900 for newer and slower wifi setups, they keep the drivers up to date.

I am using a it with a AC1900 Nighthawk, plugged into a USB 3.0 getting 866.7mbps with all green bars.

At 19.99 from Amazon, can't really beat it. I have 2 of these and work very very well.

Sounds like a commercial, especially when the link states clearly its an AC 1200 device.

I might jump on to AC when my router dies. So far, 802.11n 2.4/5Ghz is good enough for what I do. Maybe when I start dealing with streaming 4K video over wifi, than yeah.
