Here's a link to what Comcast says about your modem.

»mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com ··· 6121-365

From that I can see it should handle 100mbps download, but since the service is over-provisioned a bit, you might not be able to use that extra speed beyond 100mbps.

Yeah, a 4x4 SB6121 can usually provide a maximum of about 125 to 130 Mbps, depending you how congested your node is.

However, as that Comcast page on the SB6121 says, they only rate it for up to 101 Mbps down.

As the Blast! tier is over 101 Mbps in many markets already »Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »What are the actual Provisioned Speeds? , that could be why you were told that also.

Comcast has been telling customers that it's time to look into replacing their 4x4 modems for 2 years now: »[Speed] Heads-Up: Time to Replace Your DOCSIS 3.0 4x4 Modem

I am in FTL and got a notice on my last bill about the speed increase. I'm on Extreme and not Blast so not sure if it's taken effect yet.

These speed increases only apply to the Performance Starter, Performance and Blast! tiers, and not to the Extreme one.

I know - I suppose I phrased that poorly, I was replying to the other user who has Blast in Fort Lauderdale and wasn't aware of a speed increase.

My 6120 gets 125 reliable, and the other day after a long area wide power outage tested to 149 for the first few minutes after the power returned in the way too early AM
120-130 should not be a problem.
However all that is subject to what Comcast will provision it for, even if less then it is physically capable of, so when they declare EoL or EoS and don't have a current config file for a given tier, it won't work.
Also with 3.1 deploying and 16/32 down and 4/8? upchannels becoming available in many areas, End of Service is coming soon to the old 4/4 channels...channel space has become too valuable to grandfather these old modems much longer

I've got an SB6121 also and my download speeds in Denver went up to about 110Mbps, upload to about 6Mbps so hopefully yours will do the same. I did implement caps based on the bufferbloat results from the speed test tool here so I'm running at 95/5.

Looking on the approved device list the 6120 and 6121 are still approved for the 100Mbps tier. Not saying that people shouldn't upgrade, but I think they will still work when the Blast! 100 upgrade comes in.

As other have discovered, Comcast's vague wording about "doubling speeds again on our most popular plans" is hardly an assurance that Blast! will be upgraded at all. Until I see with my own eyes (modem), some actual evidence that the tier I'm usings, Blast! 75 in my case, has been upgraded, I'd keep my money in my wallet. With Comcast speed increases are iffy - price increases are the only thing that you can count on.

Well in your earlier post you said you had an SB6183, since Blast! 75/10 is only being upgraded to 100/10 you wont have to upgrade that device anyway. I was talking about the SB6120 and SB6121.

You are correct. I do have an SB6183 currently active for the headroom it allowed at the time I purchased it. My point was that, if you currently own an SB6121 as your active modem, upgrading it before Comcast actually does upgrade Blast 75/10 was, in my opinion, an unwise investment. You may have more faith in Comcast's claims than I do.

I still have my old SB6121 sitting on a shelf as my backup modem. You know, when Comcast says "it isn't our problem, replace your modem"?

Just for grins I power cycled my SB6183 and ran the local speed test - afterwards Blast 75/10 was the usual 90/12 (20% over-provisioned) it has been for years. So still no sign of a speed increase, never mind "doubling". Not a real surprise - Comcast doesn't have anybody offering better speeds for equal or better prices, so any MBA would tell you they won't bother. Not like the FCC or FTC would care in any event.

I did misunderstand you are correct. I don't doubt that they will increase Blast! before Christmas, but not that excited about it. Not resetting the modem every day. Knowing that it's still 100Mbps slower than Blast! Pro and expecting a price increase in Jan, probably has something to do with it!
