Bufferbloat should be addressed in your router via QoS. I don't know that the model of cable modem will matter.

Yes. I've had a number of modems, Puma6 and not. With any modem, bufferbloat can and should be tuned using the QoS settings on your router. You'll lose a bit of raw speed on the speed tests, but you'll lower bufferbloat to negligible amounts. The Puma6 issues are many, but introducing latency is the big problem. The Arris 1602 I had consistently failed the Puma6 test here on DSLReports. My CM600 shows solid green and passes the latency tests with flying colors. You make a good point about gig and DOCSIS 3.1 on the way when you talk about whether or not to get a CM600. I happen to have had mine for months now, replacing my Arris SB6190 which was a Puma6 nightmare. Otherwise, I'd have had the same concerns you mention. Good luck with whichever way you decide to go.

Yeah, I've been trying to find some time to play with the QoS on my router, but honestly, I get less pushback about a scheduled network outage from a 4000 user K-12 network I manage than I do from my wife and 3 kids.

That was an issue for me before, however once I switched to LEDE I can make many changes on the fly to include QoS settings, adblocking etc.

I have an SB6190, are my puma 6 test that bad? I don't really know how to interpret it.
