Some do by opting to use only their cell phones.

That's about as foolish as saying you'll use a moped to fetch groceries. It's a joke.

Perhaps for you, but for the person who checks email once a day and maybe reads a news site, it makes perfect sense.

Well then there are a lot of "foolish" people using mopeds* to do things like that.

*Try looking at countries other than the US.

The problem is that isn't the typical use case. Many stories of people using 100's of GBs of data on their mobile plan, only to complain that they are being throttled on their "unlimited" data plan.

Many disagree, but mobile data from a phone was never intended to replace home internet. Key word: mobile.

For every anecdote of such individuals, there is an anecdote of a person barely using the internet. For those people, it makes sense to just rely on their phones.

I have no idea what there is here to dispute. People dropping wired internet connections for wireless data are well known to exist:

You can find other news articles on these cellphone only cord cutters if you look.

Spend time around more millennials. You'll find it's quite common. People move out and never bother with getting fixed-line internet installed. It's much like "cord-nevers".

We're more or less entering a post-PC era as well.

That laptop you used in college broke? Many don't bother replacing or repairing it and go mobile only. I know two people who have fixed broadband *just* for consoles and their smartphone. No PC.

The rapidly rising cost of broadband along with stagnating wages isn't helping growth. It's turning people away from fixed broadband.

I work with millenials who do just this.

It's almost reminiscent of over a decade ago when I ditched my landline and used a cellphone only for a means of telephonic communication. It was a growing trend at the time but was not that widely accepted.

I'm not comfortable at this time with moving to a 'mobile only' Internet solution, but others are doing it. Who know where this will lead another decade down the road?
