Re: New to U-Verse TV, questions about remote viewing

Native just means they've upgraded the network in your area to support IPv6 end-to-end, so your 5268 gets direct IPv6 communication, alongside IPv4, i.e., "dual stack."

Speaking of which -- I see that I now have dual stack IPv6. I last checked about 2 days ago, and was still on 6rd at that time.

Dual-Stack IPv6 Internet Connection Type Value
Dual-Stack IPv6 Internet Address 2001:506:XXXX:XXXX::1
Dual-Stack IPv6 Default Gateway fe80::XXXX:XXXX:XXXX:1c00
Dual-Stack IPv6 Delegated Prefix 2600:1702:XXXX:XXXX::/60

It looks as if the router IPv6 address is not from the delegated prefix. Interesting.

They must be switching our area (Chicago suburbs) to dual stack.

Router is 5268. Firmware is 10.5.6.529489-att

The native IPv6 rollout is really weird and doesn't seem to go by area. Last fall I was next door at my neighbor's house and their NVG589 was on native! Yet my 5268 is still on 6rd.

Yes, it sure is. Still, it's good to see that it is happening, even if slowly.

It's not by area. It depends on the edge router that's terminating your particular connection. I discovered a bug with AT&T's 6rd implementation that I shared with a AT&T engineering contact from here; he eventually offered to roll a truck to move my connection to a different card that would be terminated by an IPv6 enabled edge router.

They're slowly replacing these old edge routers, so eventually everyone will have native. To be honest, I don't see much difference in latency using 6rd, when I run tests to my office on both IPv4 and IPv6, but YMMV depending on the topology of AT&T's network and backbone in your area.
