tmc8080 posted : I have 100 @ $~50...
I have my own modem and shelved the free router for my own. If your getting free 200 for about the same price, that's a bonus.. these days you probably can't score a similar deal outside of a triple play plan (based on the bundle discounts) which will take your bill over the $100 a month mark for sure. Altice seems to be getting less competitive, IMO and it's worth looking into FIOS for those who currently are getting the cold shoulder from Retentions-- and I wouldn't make it a secret that you intend to switch at the end of a billing cycle for a better deal with FIOS.

At most you could save $10 a month.. $5 for having your own modem and $ for downgrading from 200 to 100.. however, they may not be willing to modify the discount and force you to keep the 200 or switch back to $65 a month so it might as well leave well enough alone with that and just buy a modem if you intend on sticking around a few years as a customer.

As for me? I'm probably switching around the end of March when my 5% off cable /satellite tv/internet services promo ends with Chase Visa. There's little hope of Optimum offering good deals to internet only customers with Altice profits going into the toilet. If enough of us switch, I bet that tune WILL CHANGE..

[OOL] Being charged $10 for Optimum 100

mitsguy2001 posted : I had thought that Optimum 100 is the current base tier, the slowest speed Optimum has available. According to my bill, I am being charged $34.95 per month for Optimum Online, plus $10 per month for Optimum 100 (plus the $4.95 per month modem fee, and the free Smart Router). Since I thought that Optimum 100 was the new base speed, I was surprised that I was being charged anything beyond the Optimum Online cost. As I've posted in the past, due to wireless interference, I can't get even 20 Mb/s, yet alone 100 Mb/s so I have no desire to pay for anything extra.

When I called Optimum to ask, they said that everybody must pay for a speed tier, and that the $10 Optimum 100 is the cheapest speed tier. They said that paying just the $34.95 for Optimum Online gets you no service at all. It was also pointed out that I'm actually getting an upgrade to Optimum 200 for free. But I pointed out that the upgrade is worthless to me, since I can't even get 20 MB/s due to the wireless interference.

I then checked Optimum's website. It lists the Optimum Online cost as $64.95! It, however, listed no extra cost for Optimum 100.

Is the $30 per month discount (minus the extra $10 I'm being charged) a multi-product discount that I'm entitled to, since I also have Optimum TV and Voice? If so, then I should not be charged the extra $10. Or, am I getting a special deal, which is still $20 cheaper than full price even after adding the $10 per month, in which case I should just be happy and stop complaining?

Is it considered bad form to poll others here as to how much they are paying for service?

Thank you.
