Re: [Signals] Issues with CM1000 and gigabit service

Wow, I feel a little silly. I just threw my hands up in the air, disconnected power from the modem, walked around outside in the cold just to physically check the cable line, came back in, ate some food, plugged it in, and now I touched 900mb (it settled around 800). That should be about what I should expect, right? It's currently connected via 50ft cat6 to a switch and then 100ft cat6 to the modem. I'm going to add pieces back in and see if the speed hold up.

Was really the only difference that I left it off for ~30 full minutes?

That still seems a bit low; if your components are all up to it you really should be seeing more like 960.

CAT6 written doesn't mean anything since there can be CAT6 cables that are inferior to a compliant CAT5E cable and then there are CAT6 cables that are superior to the compliant CAT5E cable.

Well the speed keeps ramping up and usually gets just above 900 before the end. I might investigate more later, but for now I'm just glad it's much faster than before.

Almighty, I've generally just been trusting that cat6 on amazon is good cat6. Any good way to verify whether they're really up to snuff? Or is there a trusted brand name?

Well, you can always see actual tests of the cables if there is one or read this:
»www.bluejeanscable.com/a ··· -dog.htm

I personally use Belden Mediatwist which is a crescent shaped cable that has each pair bonded to each other in individual tubes but this is from 1999.
