This gets back to a conversation we had in another recent thread about overkill just for the sake of overkill. Do you want to spend $160 to some day be ready to use DOCSIS 3.1, and maybe 1 Gbit service? You could also go with the Motorola MB7621 24x8 DOCSIS 3.0 modem for about 1/2 that cost, and it will be more than capable of your current connection speed.

but why? when comcast will have everyone on on their network at docsis3.1 in the next year. so then now your already outdated, aqm and the benefits of docsis 3.1 are worth it.

No MSO has formally announced enabling AQM (at least none that I know of). On the other hand, placebos show success in many patients who want to believe.

did many tests before 3.1 was enabled in my area. after i no longer need to use qos. docsis 3.1 aqm is built into the spec. they also recommend docsis 3.0 use it but not required on 3.0.

"This technology shows such promise for radically improving the broadband user experience, that we've mandated it be included in DOCSIS 3.1 equipment (both cable modem and CMTS). We've also amended the DOCSIS 3.0 specification to strongly recommend that vendors add it to existing equipment (via firmware upgrade) if possible."
