[WIN10] Outlook 2016 and Outlook 365Hello all,
We have been noticing that Outlook 2016 (a couple of months ago, which as auto-updated itself to Outlook 365) takes about 2 minutes to go past the "loading profile" splash message of Outlook. This occurs with our hosted Exchange server at Intermedia.net. Configuring Outlook to POP3 works quickly.
This happens to all users, small mailboxes and large ones.
Not sure if this is an Intermedia problem so my question is, does anyone here know of an issue with Outlook 2016 and all Exchange / hosted Exchange servers or is this a known issue.
It literally takes minimum of 30 seconds (small mailboxes) to well over 3 minutes for large mailboxes. Used to take about 10 seconds before all these updates came through.
Have tested multiple computers, my home computer and others, different ISPs. Consistent across all of them. |

I support Outlook '16 / O365 hosted on the Microsoft Government cloud. Only time I've seen a slow open has been related to network issues, mostly DNS. Outlook seems to run an autodiscover at every launch not just the initial setup.
Worth a look at your DNS infrastructure, on site and hosted. There's also the diagnostic website that checks these things for you. Microsoft remote connectivity something or other.
Oh, Azure directory sync issues will slow it down too, if your hosted exchange is authenticating against an on-site directory. |

I connect to a Microsoft hosted Exchange account. Outlook fully loads in 6 seconds. Using version 1802 build 9029-2167 Click to Run. Still called Outlook 2016 here and I have never seen the product called anything but that although I am not doubting you. Even Microsoft calls it Outlook 2016. Can't see how it would be anything but a problem with your host. Edit: did a quick check on Google. Try this: In Outlook, go to File -> Options -> Advanced -> Display -> Tick "Disable hardware graphics acceleration" -> OK. See what happens. |

That tool helped us figure out what was wrong. One of Intermedia's servers was not responding properly. We modified our autodiscover record to the server that should be the one that is queried. Once we did that everything seems to have started working. (We had other issues also, but the main issue was effecting everyone, no matter what location (different ISPs and computers) I tested it from.) Intermedia blamed it on an Outlook problem and told us to contact Microsoft. Not cool. |

Hopefully you embarrassed them sufficiently? |

Since I am not an expert at this topic, I'll just accept the work around and move along. I like the company. They are very reliable and provide excellent service. I just wish someone over at Intermedia would have pointed me to this tool so that our programmer and I would have used it (initially) to test things in much greater detail. Only after I posted here did I get the correct resource for troubleshooting. I'm glad to have a helpful resource in DSLREPORTS. said by b_p_smith:Hopefully you embarrassed them sufficiently? |

Thank you for asking the question and posting your solution. That is very helpful info. I learned a lot about how OL operates and why it might be so slow to open up. Too many clunky Add-ins are another problematic issue. |
