[Apps] Chrome: No sound on FacebookWindows 10, updated. Chrome updated. PC volume turned up, videos unmuted.
In Chrome, only on facebook.com, on any FB account I use, I have no sound on videos. In Chrome Incognito Window, same thing. Casting from PC to Chromecast, same thing. No Sound.
In Chrome, on other sites, sound works.
In Edge, same account, same computer, sound works. On Android Pixel 2XL, same account, sound works.
I've tried clearing all my FB cookies from Chrome and tried CCleaner to clean computer, rebooted. No luck.
Short of resetting or deleting the Chrome profile, what should I try? |

With Chrome open and playing a long YouTube video or something (so you have time to check without the video ending), and make sure master / system volume is at 50% or so.
Then, with the video playing (and all volume sliders up) right click on the speaker icon at the bottom right task bar, select "Open Volume Mixer".
In there, you should see any application you've got that plays (edit time) sound, and Chrome should be one of them. Check to make sure that the slider for Chrome is in line with all of the other apps, and that at the bottom, the speaker icon isn't muted. |

Thanks. YouTube in Chrome plays sound, no problem. Following your steps with video playing in YouTube. See image. With a video playing on Facebook, the image is the same but there is no sound and I don't see the vibration animation in that Volume Mixer box. With sound playing on YouTube, the Volume Mixer displayed animation with the sound. |

I had a similar, if not identical, problem on an HP laptop that originally had Windows 8.1 if I recall correctly. Youtube Vids were fine with volume (directly on YouTube), but anything embedded on certain sites, including facebook, was either no sound or so low it couldn't be heard.
I finally resolved by downloading the "latest" (which were pretty old 2016 version) sound drivers from the HP site. I wasn't expecting it to work - but lo and behold, it did.
Might be worth a shot - I figure that the Win10 default drivers borked something. |

Thanks. This is HP.
I had no problem til yesterday. Facebook.com always played sound. Twitter video plays sound ok.
Don't think I updated anything recently but maybe something updated in the background automatically. I'll go search for drivers. |

Device Manager > Sound Checked for updates to Conexant Smart Audio HD and Intel Display Audio. Best drivers already installed.
Windows Update History: Nothing has been installed since 3/21 and nothing audio. The problem didn't start til late on 3/25. |

Try going to the speaker device options and disable surround (7.1 or 5.1) and set it just to stereo and see if it helps. |

Yeah - mine said "best already installed" too - but I re-downloaded the HP package (even though it was already on the machine) and reinstalled. For 5 or 10 minutes of work it wouldn't hurt to try |

Thanks. I tried HP Support Assistant, nothing. Then I went to HP Support page and the HP hardware detector failed twice and I stopped there. I'll go look again, try to figure out what model number they want. They have thousands. |

I found the HP Serial number using System Information. I entered that at support.hp.com These are the drivers available. I will try reinstalling the Audio package. |

HP offered 2 different versions of Audio. I installed the one with the higher file number, rebooted. This didn't fix the issue.
No audio on Facebook.com in Chrome. This is a Chrome problem, I'm pretty sure. |

Nothing worked, except resetting Chrome to default settings. FB sound in Chrome is back on. |

I'd call it a corrupted Chrome profile, rather than a setting. |
