For download speeds up to 400 MBPS the current modem they hand out for that is the Arris TM1602AP2. For the Gigabyte tier the current modem they hand out for that is the Technicolor TC4400. The tech was lying about you having the latest equipment most likely did not have any Arris TM1602AP2's on his truck.

The latest WIFI router they are handing out for download speeds up to 400MBPS is the Sagemcom Fast 5260. For the Gigabyte tier you will get one of these three routers. The Askey RAC2V1K, Arris RAC2V1A, and or the Sagemcom RAC2V1S.

I thought the 1602 model was the one with the defective PUMA chip, why would they bother having this model?

All of the current modems spectrum provides have the defective puma 6 chipset, except the 3.1 gigabit modem. The engineers at spectrum aren't very smart, so they don't understand things like the latency issues that Puma6 causes etc....

They will not hand those modems out to non Gigabyte users and Charter Communications has even made sure that customer service can not even activate them on non Gigabyte tiers if a user is able to get a hold of one.

Or, you know...the truth. They bought those modems a long time ago, before the Puma 6 issue was confirmed even on this site. Remember, for years, people thought the SB6190 was one of the best modems out there. I think it showed up in late 2015? So they probably bought thousands of them. They likely have a ton of them in inventory that are new, or refurbished(where they were replaced under warranty) and they actively re-box equipment after it's returned and reconditioned(if found not to be defective) so you can't really tell if you got a brand new one or not. The thread claiming there was a problem with Puma 6 on this site didn't start until Dec. of 2016 and it was a while before people admitted there was an issue.

So considering most users never notice the problem, they made a business decision to keep using these multiple modems that they bought that had this "issue". Also, instead of buying a new untested modem, in cases where they had to re-supply, it made sense to stick with the same models where possible to simplify both support(less training on new equipment), supply chain(less variability in devices being inventoried) and also plant/engineering(less variety of equipment to possibly have compatibility issues with changes/upgrades in the network).

Eventually they'll churn out. My guess is in the next year or so, you'll see a lot of companies moving on to different models as they buy new inventory.

I dislike using the Puma 6 modems too(I had a SB6190, replaced it myself before Charter bought out TWC here locally), but I don't claim that there's some type of sinister deep state corruption behind why they're still deployed. You want them to pay to replace all those modems? Guess what, you'll be paying for it with increased billing(something Charter has established they are not afraid of).

Exactly, I for one am not interested in getting an increased bill from Spectrum, it really does not make sense that one has to pay 44.95USD a month for internet but it is what it is.

Why? base roadrunner was ALWAYS $44.95 back in the day with a slight discount for having TV services.

You see, back then you paid $45 for cable, and say, $30 for internet. With both, your cable bill was about $75, so we are back to what we paid originally with TV ($64.99 currently)

And i'm sorry.. move to Comcrap land and realize.. Spectrum is quite logical/reasonable when it comes to speed for the price. I hate comcast and never want to live ANYWHERE with their services again.

/Arris was just the middle man or authorized dealer

intel sold the chips to arris for pennies and "passed" the savings to the cable co..

also the arris modem can be compromised in under 20 seconds.. assuming default Wifi password is used see »TWC leaves your WiFi password Exposed by Default

arris modems are junk from the start

also puma6 modems were shipping back in 2013 Cisco-made XB3 device

I believe that is retail pricing, there are a lot of people that pay 200USD+ for entertainment (TV, Internet, and phone) services, but that does not mean you nor I should be paying that much. When working for Spectrum
as an employee, not a contractor, my bill would retail about 400 - 500USD a month but I definitely was not paying that...
