[CATV] Beware.......Charter ScamsFor some reason, 2 calls from "Charter" wanted to give me a TV deal. Makes me wonder how they have my charter information. Maybe I will read this in the news 6 months from now.
(636) 256-6952 29 Jun 2018 07:58 PM The scammers these days call with same area code, and same 256 number as mine. This they call is "caller ID spoofing" 256-6952 claimed to be Charter Spectrum. Language from India or Pakinstan or similar. I immediately asked for "do you have call back number?" I repeated myself 3 times, he said yes, "90......." and he hung up the phone after I said the United States does not have "90" number ====================== Just the other day, Charter called, I lied and said I had Comcast (not available). This call I was messing with him and end the end, told the scammer to "()#$*%& (#64" =====================
Just a heads up, 2 charter scammers is the past 2 days.

Just a heads up, 2 charter scammers is the past 2 days. Guys, If you have Spectrum Phone Services, turn on "Nomorobo" in the Peace and Quiet section of "My Account.". It requires the activation of Answer Anywhere to work. Follow the prompts and when activated, your telemarketer/spammer calls will be dropped after the first ring, so that the caller can't leave a message. The calls that the OP is getting are from a telemarketer, NOT Spectrum. We have Spectrum Triple Play, and turned on this service two years ago. We have had exactly ONE Robocall get through in all that time! In your Phone Services from Spectrum you will find other phone settings to customize your privacy experience. Nomorrobo needs the call to ring once to be able to screen the call. Calls will show up on Caller ID on TV, but will be dropped from your phone. School closings, whether emergencies, doctor and pharmacy calls are always allowed through. Here is Nomorobo's website, Included within is how to report a call to Nomorobo that is not being blocked, as well as how to report a call that shouldn't be blocked. But, "My Account" has those settings for Nomorobo built into your Phone settings. Opting in to Nomorobo is required to activate it, but you will only need to do it again to add another phone number or if you change your phone number: » www.nomorobo.com/Satch

They aren't free like they are for digital landlines, but are VERY reasonable. $1.99 a month I think. Probably mass spam caller that knows what #'s are in a charter served area and they just mass call everyone in that area. Not like they got your info as they were likely blind calling people. You can get people's names from a directory listing. | | 1 edit |

Well, the scammer had trouble with the third number lol

yep, nomorobo works great on my non charter voip service also. can't believe it's free for landlines and works so effectively. even at $1.99 for mobile, that's a sweet price, if you get that many telemarketers on your cell. personally, i get very few, so don't have it on there. | | kode54 join:2003-09-19 Riverside, CA |

Sadly, from what I gather of from the reviews, neither the Android nor the iOS apps are very well made, compared with how effective the land line blocking is. | | rworne3 join:2004-04-16 Granada Hills, CA 1 edit |

Next time they call, play along.
When they ask your name, just tell them it's Terry Maki Choot
If it's a lady, it is polite to request them to send pictures of Bob and Vagene for ID purposes. One cannot be too careful.

Just a heads up, 2 charter scammers is the past 2 days. Charter scammers probably have your info because Charter's security is laughable at best. There will be another customer data leak in the future for sure. | | | ·AT&T FTTP

If your phone number and @charter.net email address are together in one of the thousands of data breaches, it's not difficult for them to put 2 and 2 together to make people believe that since they have 2 pieces of your information, they must be from Charter.

I usually just let these kind of calls leave messages, or I will just look up the numbers on sites like » whycall.me and see if people have reported the numbers as scam. I will block those numbers in the end. | | scooper join:2000-07-11 Kansas City, KS |

Nomorobo seldom, if at all, works when the scammer's spoofed phone number uses a local area code. Nomo cannot keep up with all the locally spoofed phone numbers which is what the OP experienced. Usually the CID on locally spoofed numbers displays the name of the city the NPA/NXX belongs to so in most cases targets can just ignore the calls. Many times the spoofed numbers belong to valid customers so one must be careful about blocking them.

said by scooper:It does no good to block these spam calls. They will just spoof another number. Best thing to do is to ignore them, Well, At least on my landline with Nomorobo experience, I beg to differ. In the three years we have had it activated, only one spam/telemarketer/robocall call has gotten through! (meaning, being able to leave a message.) At the same time, no calls that are supposed to go through have been blocked. Very pleased with the service! However, I have heard that Nomorobo on Mobile services has not been as good. But I read an article that said updates are coming out that should help with this issue.
