Vchat20 posted : Honestly the only thing I can think of that I dislike the most off the top of my head is Cortana. And that is largely because I don't use that feature at all. Thankfully it doesn't get in the way at any point. I'm more of a Google Assistant person myself.

I guess one other thing that does bother me a tiny bit but is at least changing in coming versions is as someone who has a Windows Mixed Reality headset, the irony is I'm not terribly happy with them, currently, latching updates of the WMR software and key components to Windows feature updates. Especially as the WMR software is still very much in flux with new features and fixes it becomes annoying waiting for the next Windows feature update to get access to those. But at last check it sounds like in the next version or two they are going to start decoupling that.

I guess there's also other things I can list that if I'm thinking about them they'd bother me a little but for the most part they don't come up or concern me in day to day usage. For example the added bloatware apps. They don't use up a ton of space to be a concern and they don't interfere with my day to day usage of my systems. On top of that with the infrequency of the major feature updates of Windows I can simply uninstall them at that time and go til next update without issue.

I have to say I agree with a lot of what trparky has said already in this thread. I'm one of those users who follows the 'KISS' principal when it comes to Windows 10 operation. In that I don't make a lot of unneeded changes or use third party tools which muck with the OS. Tick off a few options in Windows here and there, rely totally on Windows Defender vs a 3rd party AV. Overall concerning actual showstopping bugs on solid hardware I haven't had any issues as of late. 10 runs solidly for me. I maybe had one or two major issues very early on in 10's life such as a complete loss of internet connectivity after one of the very early feature updates on my Desktop but that was a simple rollback to fix until a patch was released if memory serves. Only machine I've ever had significant Win10 issues on was my old Touchsmart from 2010 that really didn't even officially support Windows 8 let alone 10 and AMD's patchwork switchable graphics were the sole pain therein. At the very least eventually Microsoft did kick AMD in the rear and got a stable driver released in-box in 10 so the machine actually ran.

As for feature suggestions to like, I do have one to add that I use on a somewhat regular basis on my laptop: The easy to access power plan sliders in the system tray when running on battery. My primary machine these days is an Inspiron 7577 gaming laptop. On battery I can usually squeeze about 5 hours out of it if I keep things light. Being able to go back and forth between battery saver and other options at a moments notice if needed is nice.

Hard drives are slow as shit even when booting Windows itself let alone updating it. Most Mac hardware is very high end hardware when compared to your average run-of-the-mill piece of shit Windows system. Have you looked at some cheap systems before? I wouldn't be caught dead using a cheap Dell.

People talk about how Mac hardware is more expensive but that's what you're going to pay for good hardware. In the race to the bottom in the PC industry we have become accustomed to the fact that computers should be cheap. Yes, they should be inexpensive but not so cheap that they're built from the cheapest shit possible. Take this example for instance, I've seen systems from Dell that have only one DIMM in it. One DIMM for a dual-channel memory controller equipped system. WTF! What the hell were they thinking? You've pretty much castrated the processor with doing that! Or putting the slowest DDR4 memory possible when there's no difference in price for faster RAM.

So I have to wonder if the reason why people are having issues with Windows is because of the lack of quality hardware.

It very well could be the quality of hardware. I'm certain the more you pay the less issues you'd have. But some businesses can only afford what they can budget for. Fortunately we have been approved for $1500.00 for our next batch of laptops. So we should see even less issue on the horizon.

To quickly address some of your replies in order of top to bottom:

- The Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series (which is what our budget at the time would allow) does indeed have a broken display after MS's big 1709 update. You have to reboot it to get it working. But as soon as you close the lid and reopen it, you get nothing but gray, pink, green pixilation taking up the entire screen making it unusable. Updating the BIOS fixes the issue.

- As for Cisco and ESET, I had no idea about that.

- Updates taking an hour or so...it happens. Yes, some of those are indeed HDDs. But others are SSDs. And even though it is a faster on the SSD. It still take close to an hour to complete. (on i5) I should DL the update to a flash drive and install it from there. I can cut that part out at least.

-Mac hardware... when I say I use a MacBook, I mean a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. It's 6 years old and still running better than a Dell Latitude 3480 that is only a few months to a year old. Is that 6 year old hardware better than the year old hardware on the Dell or is it the OS? I dunno man. But I suspect if I were to put Win 7 Pro or Ubuntu on that 3480 it would perform much better. Which then leads one to believe that Win 10 Pro is the issue.

If I have a problem with my computer I don't jump to the conclusion that it must be Microsoft because everyone else hates Microsoft; that would jumping on the Microsoft hate train like so many people around here just love to jump on. I actually investigate why something went wrong.

I have been around computers since the old Tandy 8088s so I've been around the corner. I'm not at all new to this stuff and I've troubleshooted more stuff in my years of dealing with weird shit more than most of you here on these forums. I would like to say that I know the in's and out's of Windows as much as any person at Microsoft. If there's something wrong with Windows, I've probably more than likely seen it and not only that but solved it!

I also don't run duct taped together systems with software hacks upon software hacks either, I run as close to stock Windows configurations as I can. I do not load a metric ton of tweaks, I don't use such programs like "Shutup 10" and the like. I like any rational person has turned telemetry to Basic Mode and that's it! Final! No tweaks! NOTHING!

To those people who have issues all the time I dare you to load Windows 10 and don't mess with it. Use it as it's meant to be used, I guaran-fuckin-te you that you won't have issues.

I agree with everything you say except that you won't have issues with Win 10 if you don't mess with it.

In a single user situation this can work. But in a business environment with many computers, many which have nothing un-needed installed, they can still have issues that they really shouldn't have.

There are those times when an update for the OS is released and it screws something up on your computer. Like the display, or the wifi or BT card. Then you have to find out if there are updated drivers to those things. Or maybe a BIOS updated to fix a display bug from the bullshit 1709 update. Your average user wouldn't know to check for something like a BIOS update. So they may just toss out (or give away) the computer and get a new one.
Or you don't know what is screwed up because the error that is displayed on the screen isn't something on Microsoft's site. But someone at MS had to type it. It's not just gonna word itself. So why does it not exist?

Shit like that is annoying and if it happens on even just 5 same model computers, causing 5 different people to take a hit in production which can get them in trouble with their supervisors, it gets frustrating for all involved. And then you realize, it doesn't happen on the rest of the same model computers. "Wha...??"

And for the computers this does happen on, they have nothing installed on it that it shouldn't. MS office, chrome, adobe reader, cisco any connect, ESET..that's it. Is it hardware? Or is the OS. Or is it both, to where the manufacturers of both items aren't truly in communication with each other on what they should both be doing.

Oh did I mention the... Consistent. Fuckin. Updates. On Win 10? This alone SLOWS things down to halt for people. ...for hours sometimes. How is this acceptable?

It all gets annoying REAL fast. Which is why I use a MacBook for work. I don't need to have that experience happening to me while I'm trying to fix other bad experiences.

But don't get me wrong, we have a large amount of users out there that are having ZERO issues on their Windows machine. As a matter of fact, those numbers totally outweigh the those having issues. And that's great!

But because those individuals aren't having issues, it doesn't mean that the issues do not exist, nor does it mean that the other staff are doing something wrong. Sometimes shit just doesn't work for Windows. And that's where the consistent inconsistencies piss you off. It's because of that, people will hate Windows.
