Product of the Great Depression and he refused to have any credit.<br><br>I've known people with so-called great credit scores who are disasters on the road with multiple at fault accidents yet skate off with low rates. BUT up until four years ago I had never had a CC, or a loan for that matter.<br><br>I bought my car, and to get the 0% financing (I had the cash, but the officer at my CU brought up the idea, as my checking account there pays 4%).. BUT i had to open a "secured" credit card, charge $1,500 to it, and pay it off right away, so they had some payment history to offer me the loan.<br><br>In the end I came out better, paid the car off in less than 36mos and got 4% on my checking account in the meantime, but it's still a jacked up system.]]></description>

Many cards also don't have an annual fee (I won't touch a card that has annual fees)<br>2) Most cards offer some kind of points than can be redeemed for cash (i.e. applied to your statement balance)<br>3) Credit cards frequently offer additional protections against damaged purchases, rental car insurance and even travel insurance.<br><br>Try getting those benefits with cash.<br><br>Then again, if you don't pay the balance in full every month ... credit cards are the worst idea. It all depends upon the holder.]]></description>

The local cable company was the same way- they wanted a $250 deposit or something to not have my SSN.<br></p></div>In New Jersey the deposit has to be in an interest bearing account and the interest is yours if you pay your bills. <br><br>A hard/third party credit check stays on one's report for three years. I had one hard check and it knocked my score down 15 points for over a year. That was one hard pull in the last 20 years. A hard check or two every year would be a credit killer.  <br><br>My home and auto insurer ran my credit, they just checked the FICO score. It was a soft check and doesn't show on credit reports. Credit checks both soft and hard are becoming more common. My score is over 800 and I get a great rate. A credit score shows how responsible one is. ]]></description>

I said well then just buy the phone out right and get service.  He laughed and said if the system denies you there is nothing him or anyone can do.  Buying your device outright still will NOT let you on their network if it gets tripped. I said are you serious.  He said yes Verizons new fraud checker is the start of the mark of the beast they are playing God they will refuse and kick anyone off the system wants.]]></description>

They shouldn't need to run your credit unless you are financing a device, but the carriers try to force you to run credit anyway so that they can then sell you phone upgrades later to try and lock you in.
