Did you inform them that you already have a Quantum router, or did you just go into My VZ and see what they would offer? I'm sure that if you told them you already had a Quantum router they wouldn't require you to rent one. Also, did you try to renegotiate your contract via online chat or with CR... I'm guessing you didn't?

I was in the exact same situation you are currently in... I was out of contract with the free DVR for life deal. I initiated several online chat sessions, and eventually got 2 $30/mo. customer loyalty discounts plus other minor discounts for 2 years and was able upgrade to Quantum at a lesser cost.

In other words, you need to make contact through online chat or through CR... just going into My VZ and seeing what deals they offer will likely not save you money.

That's Verizon for ya!

It wasn't easy for me to get my new deal either. It got to the point where I was out of contract for over a year, but I just kept asking online chat "nicely" what they could do for me. I refused the petty discounts to renew my contract and to my surprise they eventually offered me a $30/mo. customer loyalty discount plus other minor discounts. I accepted, but a day or 2 later, for the hell of it, I initiated another chat and they offered me a second $30/mo. customer loyalty discount.

I'm not sure what exactly made them eventually give me these discounts, but you need to be persistent and online chat is the easiest way to do that.
